It has taken me a month to think about this review. We live in this wonderful town and prefer to dine out at our local restaurants. Unfortunately, 3 strikes and you are out, is our motto. We tried really we did. We always leave extremely satisfied with our meals. It's just getting a table with a smile that keeps us from entering The Rathskeller
. Thankfully the food is excellent, But YIKES, their wait time is extremely frustrating and their weekend hostesses are poorly trained and quite rude. If you want to dine with more than 5 in your group, hold onto to your watches. We were told 30 min, then when the first hour passed, we kept getting brushed aside saying 5 more minutes for another 40 min. This was not a one time experience, we went 3 different dates in 3 different months. The last time, was our last time.
The manager explained they cannot sit 6 people except at one specific booth. ( this was explained after our first hour wait) unfortunately, I lost my cool when the young hostess rolled her eyes at me. (Even as they sent her to our table to apologize, she continued with an arrogant attitude). However, Immature of me, I could not help but discuss manners with her. Absolutely ridiculous of me, right? Once seated , The management sent over numerous appetizers to appease us. Eh...
Our compliments to the chef! Our palates are always amazed and pleased with the wonderful food that is prepared. It is is an awful shame that the management had us leaving with a sour taste in our mouths. The pictures do not do the flavors justice. The risotto was perfect as was the asparagus. Everything, was tasted by all because we could not get over the incredible tastiness, the melt in our mouths unforgettable flavors of each plate on the table. Unfortunately, I forgot to photograph the roasted beet salad, which is a group favorite. However the portion seemed quite smaller than the last time. Kudos to the chef and kitchen staff. Again, I say, YUM...DELICIOUS!
My wish for the restaurant is to recognize their up front management (having such a young staff deal with such large crowds may be too overwhelming for them) and of That their lack of accommodations do not have much for parties of 6. We watched 2 parties of 8 sit after us. Go figure
Side note: 3 of our dinner companions are lunch regulars and known by all the staff. It's a shame they have not returned to their neighborhood restaurant since then.
Apology accepted, but we dare not put ourselves in that hungry, time wasteful...
Read moreI've been here lots of times to eat, also to just sit at the bar and have some drinks with friends.Which is always a pleasant experience. Dining on the other hand has not been pleasant.
My first visit back when they had been re-opened for about a year I was brought stuffed sole with stuffing that was ice cold in the middle. At least the waitress apologized and offered to bring something else. I refused, as I always do. I worked in the restaurant business for 12 years and I don't like having to send a dish back causing the inconvenience of throwing the kitchen off track. It should be made right the fist time, no second chances. I get that people make mistakes and that is ok. I'll give you a second chance when I come to dine a second time, provided the first experiance isn't awful.
My second visit was a family dinner with all my siblings and parents, someone wanted to go so reservations were made. We ordered drinks there were two wines included one white, one red. The waitress, who was very pregnant at the time tipped the tray and spilled both wines all over my mother, some on my sister, my leather purse and all over my feet that were in sandals. I felt so bad for her. We made sure to let her know that it was ok, it happens sometimes and she was way pregnant. We received replacement drinks and finished our meals. We were never offered to have even one drink comped, a discount to come back, or even offered dry-cleaning for the red wine stained clothes. We also didn't make a huge fuss over it because who wants to belittle someone for an honest mistake? Not me, or my family. However, I think a good place of business would have at least offered to pay for my mothers glass of wine. A simple gesture. Not this place.
As for the food, everyone was thought it was mediocre. I had the beef strogonoff it was ok, nothing to write home about.
My third visit was a mushroom burger, it was pretty good. Fourth visit fish and chips and that was also good. Not good enough to go out of my way to visit but good enough that if a family member picked this place again I would order the fish and chips.
I'm not a fan of their 'famous' fries, they seem to always be soggy. I like nice crispy fries that don't droop when you dip them in ketchup.
Overall, I can't say I recommend dining here, but drinks at the bar are good and it has a...
Read moreWent there Sunday evening for my son's 30th birthday. Waited 30 minutes to be sat. Wait Staff was pleasant and got our drinks and took our orders. 60 minutes later our food finally showed up which also happened to every table in our section . I learned later that my son and daughter in law's food was way overcooked. Every table but us yelled at the waitress. While we were eating the line at the hostess podium which was 5 feet away was long and full of people complaining of the same . The waitress said to my son " this happens every Sunday" . This restaurant needs to figure out how to get their kitchen in order before people stop going there. The manager gave us and others a 15% discount for our wait. I'm curious on how many times they had to do that and how much money they lost because of poor management / training. It's a shame that their wait staff had to take so much grief as they were doing what they could . Our Waitress was getting hammered so badly by the surrounding tables that she started to hide from our section until the food was ready. Not the 30th Birthday dinner we were expecting. We live in Pennsylvania so chances are we wont be back but my son in Warwick may give you another chance. Get it together people!
I tried to email from your website but it looks like you took down those email addresses , no doubt because people were flooding them...
