I hadn't been here in 3 years until the evening of April 9, 2022. My mom was visiting Charlotte and had a taste for good fried fish. So we decided to go here since we were close by in the University area. When we were seated, the table and seat was dirty. The host was literally going to put the menus on a dirty table as if we were going to sit there. When I expressed the table was dirty, it wasn't until then he decided to put us at another table (a booth). When we sat there, we then realized my mom's side of the booth in chair had crumbs. We asked the first waitress we saw to clean table seat and she said she would get someone. Another waitress who was really nice cleaned out the seat. Then the first waitress came back and said she was assigned to us as if she really didn't want to work. We ordered the Flounder dinner for both my mother and I. We waited so long for our food that another waitress (a 3rd one) came by to take our order and we told her we ordered. Finally our food came out after a long wait by a server. (But we had no silverware provided to us by our waitress and the server had to get us some). We received a big portion. However, the fish wasn't even seasoned well, even after putting salt on it ourselves. I had to fetch my own ketchup from another empty table. My drink had ran out and we had not seen it waitress in forever. Not to mention we were ready for our ticket. I had stop another waitress (a 4th one) who passed by us to ask for a refill since our waitress was nowhere to be found. She offered a to go cup and to get our ticket to pay. However, there was something in my to go cup and she had to get another one. She apologized and was very friendly and patient despite us not being at her table (I wish I remembered her name). She was the one I gave my tip too..Then it wasn't until after I paid, our assigned waitress decides to make an appearance and I told her we were taken care of. She says okay and walks away with no apology as if she was glad she didn't have to work. Then while preparing to leave, we see two young children (around 10 maybe) who were setting up the tables with silverware and napkins working. That was very strange and different. Then upon leaving, a couple was complaining because they had been waiting such a long time with no food. Yet, another table who had gotten there after them had received their food. All I know is I won't be going back there!! I felt like I wasted money. Customer service overall was terrible and the quality of the food wasn't...
Read moreThe Good: it's in the UNCC area We came to know them as they are participating in restaurant week. Onions Rings are freshly made. Broiled dishes are an option. Cake slices are huge and good value for the price. Charbroiled Oysters are offered (but I got the Crabby style)
What can improve: Service - seems checked out or apathetic. Know idea which best applies but had to call in an order and they appeared to ask questions of staff on site as we went along. No worries. At pick-up, we were behind a large order and the folks that walked in with us had to wait to be seated. Why? The same lady packing that larger order sat them as well but she could have said "Be right with you/y'all" anything. Alas nothing. The two is all we saw (1 at the register and 1 packing expo). Paid for my order and while typing my email the writing disappeared. How about the cashier made a selection on her side to give me a paper receipt!? Gobsmacked
why offer options if you're going to rudely manhandle the situation? why not ask before doing as she did when taking phone in orders? why even permit the system to do such? It wasn't busy either. I must've had a look based on the tone of her apology. Email receipts make MY LIFE and work simpler
Broiled Capt. Steve Platter their Oysters broiled are not for me shrimp: they are indeed smaller. I think size 26 Scallops: they're not the larger ones but bigger than bay scallops. Cooked well done style which was longer than I prefer but I enjoy scallops and took out all 4 hush puppies. Uneventful and greasy. I was like ...the restaurant just opened how do these taste like they've been sitting? Sysco style, too. Family liked them for the resemblance of a dish back home. I was quite shocked they didn't taste homemade nor crispy like that's 1 thing NC does well and at every location. website ordering says there's an upcharge for certain sides coleslaw seems to come with every order
Key lime pie = good Their dessert sizes are worth the money. Good value for the cost and size of each cake offering. I haven't seen that in a while. ** But I got pie not cake so I can't attest to taste. Whole broiled fish was sliced down the center and flattened. Color me surprised.
The entire place appears clean and tidy so kudos for that. The grounds are well kept but what isn't in the South? I'll return for...
Read moreI have wanted to go to this restaurant and I finally got there only to be totally disappointed. Whereas the waitress was wonderful the rest of our visit was terrible! The salad was nothing but iceberg lettuce that was slightly rancid, 2 small, older looking cherry tomatoes and 2 large slices of cucumbers with skin still on. However; the entree was the major issue. I ordered the salmon which looked odd , baked potato which was as good as baked potatoes can be and hush puppies which I liked. The main player on the dish , the salmon was in no way up to par even for a fish camp style restaurant. When it came to the table, it looked good at first, but it looked peculiar in the type of cut in that the skin was down the middle of two pieces of fish. It had an off smell like fish that was almost spoiled. However, I thought I would give it a benefit of the doubt and took a bite of it. I have a very sensitive palate and after cooking salmon for over 10 years in full service restaurants, the strange taste was more evident than just smelling it. It tasted bad. I spit it out, and three of us told the waitress that the salmon did not taste right. She went to get the “manager “ who did not seem convinced that 3 people were making the same complaint. She went on to say, she Checks the fish when it comes in herself which is expected and something that should be done if it as fresh as they claim. She went on to say it is there best seller and the salmon was their most popular item AND they have never had anything sent back in the 18 years they have been open.
Her entire demeanor was that of a less than someone who was taking the customer seriously and was reluctant to do anything about it. She went away and came back with the check and said she took off the salmon. We looked at the bill and noticed a 17$ charge and wanted to know what that was. She also said, “I Had to charge you for something!! That was not acceptable for anyone who calls themselves any kind of...
