We pulled into the parking lot to patronize this establishment when a gaggle of completely ignorant pedestrians walked out in front of a gentleman on his motorcycle who was looking for parking. Because of their blatant disregard for the other human beings around them, the gentleman, with his wife on the back of the motorcycle, in attempt to avoid hitting these pedestrians, tipped the bike, throwing he and his wife, and the bike to the ground.

My husband and I were in the vehicle behind them, also looking for parking. We immediately threw the truck in park and hopped out to assist these folks who were just thrown off their bike. We now needed a couple strong dudes to get the bike back to standing position as that thing was easily 1,000 lbs.

All these folks are gathering around and assisting, when the restaurant manager comes out. Now obviously, we thought, this gentleman must be coming out to assist.

Guess again.

He came out to tell the couple on the motorcycle “you can’t park here”.

Imagine that — getting thrown onto your ass — the level of embarrassment alone. And the restaurant employee comes out not to help, but to tell you you can’t “park” there. My dude, ain’t nobody trying to PARK! We were trying to get this bike off the damn ground!

Anyway, we assist the couple and get them pulled into a parking spot. As we continue through the parking lot, another employee instructs us to roll our window down to tell us that if we’re not dining there we can’t be there.

I am absolutely flabbergasted at the experience we had in this establishments PARKING LOT. We ultimately decided not to patronize this business because of this experience.

You decide who you want to give your money to. Those that see a crisis and tell you to move, or who ask if...

Super cool historic building (circa 1784!) that was purchased in 1927, disassembled, and moved from Buck Mountain Road to it's current location, 17 miles away, at the foot of Carter’s Mountain, one-half mile from Monticello, the famous home of Thomas Jefferson.

The buffet style restaurant, serving traditional southern Colonial fare, is only open for lunch from 11:30 to 3pm and a bit on the expensive side, for what it is. The food, as a whole, was good .. the fried chicken was very good (crispy, tender and moist) and Michie Tavern's famous biscuits are not to be missed. The smoked pulled pork and baked chicken were both only okay. The sides varied ... green beans were okay, stewed tomatoes were very good, good mashed potatoes with meh gravy, black eyed peas were a pleasant surprise, beets were alright, and the vegetable soup was good. The staff and service was great.

Strictly as a food destination ... Michie Tavern misses the mark a bit, but this is a place that must be viewed in it's entirety ... if you're in Charlottesville and you like/appreciate history, Michie Tavern is definitely worth the stop ... an awesome, historic building with amazing history, decent to good food (stick with the fried chicken, skip the baked chicken & bbq), and very good service from a friendly,...

Incredible experience to be able to get a meal in this 1784 tavern.

The tavern is set up on a little stretch of land that also host other period buildings, and a general store with gifts and souvenirs. It's conveniently located just a stones throw away from Monticello, so, it's perfect to grab lunch or dinner before or after exploring and sticks with the colonial theme of the day.

The customer service is awesome. We were greeted by two people before we even entered the tavern, all employees are in period clothing, incredibly friendly, and are on top of keeping your plates and drinks full.

The food line is set up buffet style while you get your plate, for $18, it's all you can eat. They'll come around later and if you want more will gladly go up and get you some.

Seriously some of the best southern comfort food I've ever had. Fried chicken, mashed potatoes, beans, tomatoes, corn bread, green beans, biscuits. For drinks there is local beer and wine, and coke products.

The setting is obviously what counts, a great atmosphere, with period like cups and plate settings by a fire place on tables and stools that you'd be sitting on two centuries ago! A truly unique experience that will have you traveling back in...

Save room for peach cobbler & ice cream! Highly recommend stopping in after a visit to Monticello. They are only 5 minutes from each other. $18.xx for each adult all you can eat buffet. You will definitely get your moneys worth here! You're shown to the buffet, grab your food, find your own spot at a table, eat, and your waiter will come by and ask what you want for seconds from the buffet and they'll grab it for you. Everyone is dressed in period clothes. The atmosphere is rustic and cozy. Bathrooms were very clean. This place gets busy, up to 500/day in the summer (although not so much this summer due to covid). After your wonderful filling meal be sure to walk it off by walking down to the general store, mill, and other out buildings. They have a few out buildings that are of the time period that you can visit. (Check with them to see if they're open this season) They have a small gift shop where you can buy a BRICK OF TEA. Yes, like the tea at the Boston tea party. Highly recommend stopping in and getting a great meal.
