With almost 1 Mexican restaurant per household in the Scenic City one would think the âBest Town Everâ would etch out at least 1 in 10 top tear Mexican restaurants, but this town has nothing to Chatter about when it comes to Mexican food. I might be a little bias as ma-maw was born in Me-He-Co and immigrated here just like the rest if us Europeans, only she always said sheâs more Southern than the rest of us, now thatâsâ DEEP SOUTH! Well, she brought with her the best of south of the boarder cookinâ, and she never used The Bell to summon us we just followed our noses to the undeniable bliss of carnitas, asada, cabesa and birriaâŠ. So I do know a thing or two about Mexican delicacy. Oh, and speaking of delectalicous Mexican food, Don Beto has the magic Gig City has been waiting for. No more using fiber optic single Gig download speeds to crush on burrito pics on Pinterest, youâve got the real thing sittân right here in your backyard⊠some might take exception to that, I donât know. Nevertheless So far everything Iâve tried here at Don Betoâs has been ON POINT! The brotha must be from the City of Angels causeâ I havenât had Mexican street food this good since I crossed the river (talkinâ East of the Mississippi). So to better describe the food here, it is Mexican/LA Mexican street food style. As far as the tacos, you can expect well treated corn tortillas slightly crisp on the outside, slightly chewy in the middle and the inside soaks up all the delicious juices from your choice of meat (my fave is cabesa) but you wonât be disappointed with any of the half dozen meat choices. They have in house made gorditas, at least they tasted in house, and the burritos are massive. Their salsa bar has the flavors of El De Effe; I never knew nopales grew in Tennessee;) Also come for breakfast they have chilaquiles and much more. Iâm giving the Dynamo of Dixie (thatâs Chattanooga for all you noobs) an up grade in my book just because they âcleaned houseâ with Don Betos. Tacos Y Tortas Don Beto is a 10/10 if you love legit Mexican...
Read moreI want to love this place but they are making it hard.
I'm editing this review to reduce the Stars.
The staff if still super friendly.
The last time I went it was mid afternoon and the food had slipped a little - like the queso was not fully melted and the chicken was tough in my burrito. Guessing it was leftover from lunch rush or something.
And the last few times the toilets have not worked properly and other building features are becoming worse. There is a sign in the bathroom saying not to even flush the toilet paper - which is obviously extremely out of bounds.
Environment is still way too noisy. Multiple TVs all blaring over each other.
Suggestions: simplify the menu design it is overwhelmingly complex. love the condiment bar.... however .... Please mark the items on the condiment bar. It's all great stuff but guests have no idea of the heat level and won't know the difference in many of the items with no markings. Separate the onion/cilantro mix. Some people don't like cilantro. Some don't like onions. People who like both can add both. -offer cups of water for free. I asked for a cup of water and was told only bottle water. That's a mistake. It costs pennies... -the salsa that comes with the chips needs a complete rethinking of the recipe. It's basically cold...
Read moreSo the food seemed overpriced. 4-5 bucks a taco is a lot. The place at 530pm was being mopped with pure pinesol and the smell was overwhelming. 2 people in our group would have ranked it one star and two of us 4-5 stars and one guy 3. The guy that ordered the chicken wings (mild) didn't care for them. Said they were dry, the chicken itself, and the sauce only had a hot flavor like no other flavor profile. Two people order the special chicken burrito. Neither knew that the chicken inside would be spicy. So that was then a one star from one, but the other person liked the burrito and the salad with it. I had the Quessabirria and it was fantastic. My husband had carne asada tacos and where as they were tasty he felt they weren't worth 8 bucks for two. The menu is busy, the parking lot small. So I think it's hit or miss with the food, like order the right thing birria anything and it's amazing or something else it...
