My husband, son and myself went to Lola’s for the first-time last night. I want to point out that this was at 5:30 in the evening and the place almost empty. I ordered first. Husband ordered second. He ordered Don’s sample plate. Waitress informed him they were out of tamales and what would he like instead. He ordered two rellenos instead of the one that came with it. Now, I usually don’t pay close attention to the ordering, but this time it caught my attention. Waitress asked if he wanted red sauce or (and here my mind clicked in attention because I was expecting her to say green sauce but she says) cheese sauce. One reason I noted the conversation was because it wasn’t as I expected. The other reason is I knew my son was ordering a relleno on the side. We usually order an extra cup of queso for him to pour over his relleno at other establishments. Since the queso was almost the same cost as an entrée, I recall thinking “Well good. That solves that issue.” My husband orders the cheese sauce because he really dislikes red sauce. My son orders next and I remember thinking how odd that the waitress didn’t ask him what sauce he wanted. After waiting what seemed to be a bit too long for our food, a new waitress comes bringing my husband’s and my plate. The first thing I notice is that his rellenos are smothered in red sauce. She walks away before we can say anything and promptly returns with my son’s side dish of a chili relleno (covered with cheese sauce by the way). The husband and I both start to speak at the same time. The new waitress, I must add that she was friendly and professional the entire time and we have no issue with her, looks at me and I state to solve the husband’s issue first and then we will address the other (that being they didn’t bring the son’s entrée and just his extra side). My husband, who is the most easy-going person I know, says I am sorry but I ordered cheese sauce. The original waitress happens to be passing by and loudly exclaims in a VERY nasty tone “That’s what he ordered!” We work hard and if we choose to spend that hard-earned money at your establishment, I want the courtesy and respect that it deserves. I don’t expect special treatment or a life changing experience, but I demand courtesy. I don't believe calling my spouse a liar in effect meets that criteria. I cut in and repeated the entire conversation. At this point, the other waitress is playing damage control and asks if he would like them to pour cheese sauce on the existing rellenos. He states that no, he doesn’t like red sauce. Will they please remake it? The first waitress cuts in once again and claims “He didn’t even specify which he wanted.” The new waitress apologizes and takes away the plate and returns with my son’s entrée. Now the first waitress returns to say “They have to throw that away now that you refused it and we are all out of rellenos (it’s only 6:00 pm at this time) so what do you want instead?” very rudely and hateful. The husband says “Cancel my order.” Our portions were good but the taste was rather bland. My son and I both rec’d the foil wrapped flour tortillas. They were dry, brittle and stale. My son and I ended up getting to go boxes and took our food home where we had fresh, soft tortillas. We did verify that we didn’t pay for the cancelled meal and left no tip due the extremely poor service. This was the worst experience I can remember in ages and we will not be returning. I will also dissuade anyone who I know that plans...
Read moreThis was my first time dining here. The restaurant was clean and the waiter was prompt. I ordered the beef taco dinner with rice and beans and added a cheese enchilada and a soda. My food arrived in a timely fashion. The food tasted good but not like what I am used to coming from Texas. The taco shell contained an adequate amount of ground beef but then a sparse amount of lettuce and cheese and no tomatoes. I had ordered a side of fresh chopped onion and should have also asked that tomatoes be added to the taco. There is a file cabinet sitting in the dining room which I felt should have been in an office out of sight. Some nice soft Latino music piped in would have been nice. The prices were much better compared to other places in the area; $12 and some change before taxes, tip and fees. Sadly, there is a $.55 cent charge if you use a credit card which I am totally and completely against. That fee is a cost of doing business and I do not believe a business' bank fees should ever be passed on to the customer. However, if I get a hankering for Mexican food again, I am sure I will go back but I will remember to ask for tomatoes and to pay with cash to avoid bank fees. RATING BREAKDOWN - Cleanliness 5 stars, Waitstaff Service & Friendliness 5 Stars, Atmosphere 4 stars because of the file cabinet and no music, Value 5 stars less 2 stars for the bank fee charge which brings it to 3 stars, Food 4 stars. ...
Read moreThis is literally the best, authentic Mexican food I have ever eaten or need to eat. I feel blessed to have Lola’s in our home town! The chips are fried and kept warm so they are crispy and warm when they come out! The queso is homemade every day the yummy home made Mexican way. No canned or powdered cheese. The rice and beans are home made every day. All the meats are cut up fresh every day. Nothing is precooked, and that is why is tastes so good. I love the fact that LoLa’s never cooks any thing that is prepackaged frozen. It’s all delicious and fresh. The green and red salsa are grand prize winners. I eat in LoLa’s a lot and I always see the owner, Alex, cutting up fresh meat. I have never seen a man work so hard. But- this is why the food is so darn good! If you want a good menu with good sit down and eat food- this place is it. It’s a just a good home town...
