After making a delivery to a store nearby, I smelled something incredibly delicious, and went for a walk until I found this place.
From my first glance at their doughnuts, I knew they were special, so I took a half dozen to go with a large coffee. That wasn't enough to hit the ten dollar minimum for using a charge card, so I ordered the "Totally Mad" breakfast sandwich on an everything bagel.
It took a few minutes, but while I was waiting, I enjoyed seeing what was being brought to the tables of those who were dining in. There is attention given to portion size and presentation, showing off good looking ingredients.
Speaking of which, when I got back to my truck and finally opened my sandwich, I was staggered. The bacon and sausage were excellent by any standards, and I would guess that they are sourced from a custom butchery, using local pork. I can't verify that, but there was pride and love in that meat, and the sandwich was phenomenal, although it was difficult to open my jaws wide enough to bite into it.
The pastries were also first rate, but, as with any pastries, they are best consumed fresh, so it's a shame that this place is so far from home for me.
It is, so far, the best doughnut shop I've been to, with the possible exception of the midnight apple fritter shop on Martha's Vineyard, but it's hard to be objective about a sizzling hot, fresh apple fritter at one in the morning when everyone in line has been partying late.
I hadn't heard of the coffee served at the Mad Bakers', but it paired very well with the doughnuts.
I hope I get the chance to...
Read moreI came one morning for fresh donuts. I was disappointed at the fact that they don't make their donuts. They are shipped from another sight then warmed up for 'fresh' appeal. The people were nice & friendly. The atmosphere was nice as well. But donuts not fresh, they are not being baked on site. If they were you would easily smell goods baking an hour before opening. Driving by, there is no smell of any fresh baked goods at any part of the day. $10 for half dozen, 20 for dozen is steep for non fresh donuts. Just another small town place that never would make it in bigger towns where is competition is...
Read moreStopped and got a MAD Bacon egg and cheese bagel. Absolutely delicious! I asked for the bacon to be extra crispy and they did not disappoint!
I also got 2 donuts. The peanut butter one was eh. Just your average donut, nothing to write home about. The Chocolate Whoopie donut with vanilla cream was pretty good.
One thing that was kinda frustrating and doesn't make sense... why not post the menu on the wall or something? The only copy of the menu was on the counter where you order, so when you're standing in line trying to figure out what you want, you've got no idea what they got until it's your...
