I manage Cafe Gulistan and noticed a few reviews made below that make completely false assessments about our business.
The following individuals made hateful comments and were disrespectful to our staff, we recommend that all local businesses keep an eye out for these names: Anand Verma, Amit Shah, Santosh Saraf, Akshat Jain, and Rahill Jamalifard.
The events went as follows; they called to make a reservation for 17 people on a Saturday during our rush. We did not accept this reservation as we were fully booked. They ignored this and came in person requesting a table. We again told them that we could not accommodate them. They returned anyway with 17 people asking to be sat since they saw that there were tables available. Note, we were at least three people short, and fully staffed we cannot serve a completely full restaurant while also filling tens of take-out orders.
We told this party that there would be a significant wait on both service and food, and they said that would be okay and wanted to be sat regardless. We accommodated a number of their unusual requests including serving warm water (cold water diluted with hot water), and splitting 4 bowls of soup 8 ways at our own inconvenience with no added cost. We were able to serve them their food within a reasonable window of time, and they finished every dish.
Their only complaint was that they requested one item without mushrooms and it was served with mushrooms. If they had mentioned this upon receiving this dish, we could have rectified the situation immediately. Instead, they finished their meals completely and proceeded to complain to their server. This is when the owner and chef intervened to defend the waitress and let her tend to her other tables. We checked that this was not an allergy, but rather a personal preference, and they finished the meal including the mushrooms anyway. Again, if they had pointed out this error before eating, we would have fixed them a dish without mushrooms, but we were not given this opportunity. We believe this was a ploy to get a free meal.
The party of 17 then left the restaurant leaving a $0 tip, and continued to write that our boss is mean, the service was horrible, and that the food is overpriced. Not only did they leave insults on their bills, but now they have come to the internet to spread more baseless claims without taking responsibility for their part in this interaction.
We are a small restaurant that works hard to create a welcoming environment that accommodates everybody. We would have never turned them away if we thought that we could serve them along with our other customers and previously made reservations. We knew that taking them in may effect the quality of our service, which is why we said we could not take them.
After multiple times on the phone and in person telling them no, they still came in and proceeded to be contrary and demanding knowing that taking them in meant spreading our front and back of house staff incredibly thin.
This behavior is unacceptable. They have been put on our ban list for these reasons. It is universal that restaurants have policies, rights, and refusal of service when situations like this arise. We are adamant about protecting our staff and taking care of and the customers that are understanding, patient, and willing to work with us. The names listed above were not this way, therefore are not welcome at Cafe Gulistan.
Furthermore, it is unfair for Google to allow people to make untrue comments that effect our reviews and image without giving small businesses like ours an opportunity to make...
Read moreWe were driving home from a weekend trip and were looking for somewhere to eat. Something not a chain. Something local and little different. Cafe Gullistan popped up and we decided to give it a try. We were very pleased with our meal and the experience as a whole was delightful. Definitely recommend giving it a try and we will return!
First the food. My wife and I were traveling with my 15 year old daughter and her friend. Both of the teens were intrigued by menu options but did not want ot be adventurous due to price points of the plates (they noted they'd feel bad if they'd ordered a $30 meal and didn't like it).the teens ordered pesto pasta with almond slivers and were quite happy. Mybwife ordered the falafel platter and was quite pleased. The sauce they had on the ate was seasoned nicely and slightly sweet but not cloying very well balanced. I had a pasta meal with ground lamb and beef that was very good. Sorry but the names of the plates escape me. My wife ordered an iced tea that was clearly fresh brewed and had slight floral taste and the teens ordered kiddie cocktails. The only complaint here.was their second round of.kiddie cocktail qas overly syrupy. Othwrwise, absolutely no complaints with the meal.
Environment is really nice. Lots and lots of outdoor seating which is great. The indoor dining is insanely dark and vern cave like. If there wasn't any outside eating we would not have eaten here. There was a pianonin the dining room and sign indicating they have regular live music, just not on the nightbwe were there. We were there on a Monday night and it was busy, not packed and the atmosphere was very relaxed.
Service was very good and our waitress took the time to describe dishes and helped us with the correct pronunciation of dishes. This is a place that you could probably spend a long time at and have a good long meal. We were ina bit of a rush so didn't really spend time.that we normally would.
Value. The food was good and we were very happy with everything we got. Average cost per dish is around $20. We have similar cuisine at home for a lower cost but I'm not saying the food was over priced either. We feel the food qas good and was not outlandishly priced so all in all it is a good value for us.
We highly recommend and would be a great date night...
Read moreI wanted to love this place. We were looking forward to Turkish food. We had a table of 4. I ordered the rack of lamb for $40 and the lamb was delicious. There was nothing special about this place or the food though. I wasn't really submerged into a Turkish vibe with decor or food. The portions were small for the price. The shrimp were the basic small shrimp and for the price I was shocked. My plate; like I mentioned the flavors were spot on, but the veggies were a tad undercooked. My child's plate was also great on flavor but the other two entrées were very bland. It took a long while to get the food. After 35 minutes of waiting w/out anybody coming to our table a waitress finally showed up to notify us that our meals were running behind and that it would be ready in about another 10 minutes. She asked if we needed anything while we wait. We said more water please. We didn't get the water until the food was about there. After that the waitress was absent like the flavor in my company's food. We also waited a while to order dessert; the mousse. The dessert is not made there... It's prepackaged and it was still a bit frozen when we were served it. For $12 a piece just skip dessert here and go find another place to enjoy sweets. Overall we wanted to really enjoy this place and had super high hopes only to be let down by our own expectations I guess. The only reason I rated them 3 stars was because the meats in all the dishes including the lamb were all cooked to perfection. I'm happy my flavors were yummy but felt bad the others in my party didn't feel the same. Had the service been better I would have rated 4 stars. On the up side there was no wait to be seated while the surrounding restaurants had over an...
