Chilmark Tavern — Restaurant in Chilmark

We stayed in Aquinnah this past week. First night we needed to find a place to eat. Called here and was greeted by a very friendly person who made us a reservation for 7p. We got there right around 650. Parking was a little tough but we ended up in the market lot next door since they closed at 7.

We were seated quickly outside. Great spot. Comfortable atmosphere. Very nice waitress. Menu had a lot to offer. Ended up ordering the squid, 2 orders of fish and chips and the steak. Food came out surprisingly fast but it was piping hot and very good. We all enjoyed our food, no complaints. Service continued to be great through out dinner.

No alcohol in this town, we didn’t bring anything with us but you are allowed to BYOB which is cool.

Pricing was on the higher side particularly the steak. Understandable for a nice restaurant in a quaint MA island town.

With that said we were happy and left satisfied. From all the restaurants we ate at during our 4 day visit to MV I will say this was the best food especially the fish and chips.

Where do I start. A relative thought this place was good for our family and friends to go to while on vacation in Martha's Vineyard June 2023 . We waited 45 mins for our food(2 tables about 13 of us) It was a BYOB type place but who knew they charged 2.50 per glass for ice. My chicken was average. Not worth what i spent. Had to have something I didn't order taken off my bill. Had better chicken from Sams Club where i live. A person at my table ordered the ice but it was put on my bill so the waiter didn't bill correctly twice. They allowed us to be billed 5 different checks I believe. Any restaurant who has a large party should bring your food as its cooked. 45 mins for salad is ridiculous. Any restaurant that charges you for a cancelation of your party would never get my service. I have never appreciated any restaurant telling me what to tip, especially if service is not worthy. Who charges 5% kitchen appreciation after charging 25% gratuity for a large party? We were so anticipating sitting outside under the lights and enjoying the ambiance. Get a reservation with Resy. Everything Up-Island is BYOB so first off this is not a genuine tavern. We knew there is a cork fee used to be $12 increased to $14 ...but seriously $5 to rent one of your frosted beer glasses for BYOB?! Bread to start is a $6.00 add on. We had already waited 45 minutes past our reservation time to be seated and had starving kiddos so we ordered one for them- bread for a fee was not even tasty or warm. Children are welcome but they have no children's menu. There are no specials, a small menu, and definitely experienced attitude by server & management after inquiring about changes to what used to be a family favorite restaurant. The menu was not as enticing as years past and to be honest the food and small portions were not worth the prices. The Mac and cheese has three forkfuls! C.
