On our way to my husband's numerous doctor appointments, we thought we would try out Fred's Cafe for lunch. We spent over $100 here over the course of his medical visits.
Hubby liked one particular item on the menu, I tried a few different things. I didn't like their hamburger, it was dry. So, the last time we were there, which will be the last time we will ever be there, I wanted to try the "grilled chicken with veggie and choice of potato or roll". I chose green beans with no side roll or potato.
Hubby ordered the open-faced chicken fried steak with a side order of toast.
When our food came, I thought my chicken looked pretty sad. The picture doesn't do it justice. It was covered in grease, as if the cook took a frozen piece of chicken breast, threw it on the hot griddle and poured oil on it. Now, anyone who knows how to cook knows that throwing a frozen piece of meat onto a hot griddle results in rubbery meat. And, that is exactly what this chicken tasted like. One bite and that was all I could stomach. I ate most of the green beans which, as my husband said, "Those are some mighty expensive green beans." Yeah, they were the only thing edible on my plate.
When Hubby was putting the last bite of his chicken fried steak into his mouth, our waitress showed up with a cold piece of buttered toast. He told her to give it to someone else, we needed to leave for an appointment. Then, she looked at my plate and asked if I wanted to take it home. I told her no, it wasn't edible.
She went to talk with the cook her told her to tell me that "...sometimes we get bad chicken..." WHAT???
Well, sometimes a customer can choose to go somewhere else where the proprietor cares about repeat customers and treating them right. The RIGHT thing to have done was to apologize and remove the cost of my lunch from our bill. Nope. That didn't happen.
We will not be returning. If you personally know the waitresses or owner, you're all set but if you're looking for a quaint diner to frequent, beware. Stranger, you just...
Read moreI really enjoyed Fred's Cafe. We got there between breakfast and lunch so both of us decided to have breakfast! The restaurant was busy, but that didn't end of the service in the least. We had water and menus on our table less than 5 minutes after we walked in, the waitress was extremely friendly and knowledgeable, our order was to our table very quickly and the food was excellent! The prices really seemed low for the times we are living in but sure enough those were the prices and we both got out of there with two breakfasts and all the trimmings for under $20 for the both of us. Like I said the food was outstanding, it was hot, the service was excellent, the whole experience was really really good! All American in Midwest City was our Cafe of choice until we wandered into Fred's and now we have a new Cafe of choice! Do yourself a favor and when you're out and about stop by Fred's, you'll think...
Read moreThis is a hidden restaurant in the rural area outside OKC. We went for Catfish AYCE Friday night dinner. We had a family crowd so many dishes were chosen besides the catfish.
Everyone was pleased with their meals and the size of their portions. The presentation and taste of all meals were good. My catfish dinner was large strips of fresh crispy catfish. The sides offered for the meals were numerous choices and tasty. Most impressive being the huge battered fried onion rings.
The waitress was awesome. She was friendly and attentive even though she was busy with other customers. Her positive attitude made our experience even better.
This is a good old café. The traditional diner with boothes and tables n chairs scattered leaving space to maneuver. Our party was sat in a private dining room still sharing with other customers. The noise level was mild so we were able communicate easily...
