I was incredibly lucky to have had the opportunity to work on a collaboration with Imperfect Produce, where I got to utilize their service. From my understanding, they work with farms & suppliers to obtain produce and products that don't meet various size & cosmetic guidelines put forth by many grocery stores. This helps farmers sell additional product that would otherwise go to waste, while Imperfect Produce picks it up at a discounted price, passing that savings along to subscribers. From my experience, you sign up on their website, fill out your address, billing information, service requirements and delivery (very important section) instructions. They decide the day of the week they deliver out to your area, and give you a timeframe for the delivery. Also, the delivery fee is posted at the time of ordering. Once a week, they supply you an email that connects you to a prefilled grocery basket, where you get to add & delete which goods you want for that particular upcoming delivery. During this selection time, you can view what region the product is coming from, and also the reason why Imperfect Produce was able to procure it (hence the "Imperfect" aspect of their name). Honestly, a large amount of their product that I saw was just labeled "surplus". The selection was decently varied between staples, seasonals and some fun products. Upon receipt of the product, everything looked fantastic! I was hard pressed to find anything that I would actually turn down at a grocery store. The only issue I could really find was that some of the stone fruit I received was a bit under ripened. It's not only the produce that impressed, but some of the packaged goods like brown rice & olive oil that I received have been a pleasure to use. Also, the prices of these goods seemed to be well below my local market prices. All of this is conveniently delivered straight to your home! I feel giving up a little bit of control in selection is well outweighed by the fact that you don't need to make a grocery run, in my opinion. The fact that you make your selections a few days prior to delivery, gives you ample time to meal plan for the week. I'm very much impressed with the simplicity, convenience and actual product supplied by Imperfect Produce. If I were to give a tip, I would say that Imperfect Produce is a fantastic way to receive in staple ingredients (onions, garlic, potatoes, etc.), and leave the seasonal or uncommon ingredients for when you're out shopping for meats. While I had the opportunity to try out the service during a period for free, I think I'm going to continue to utilize Imperfect Produce. I would definitely recommend their service if fresh produce & cooking are apart of your lifestyle.

I live in Seattle and sad that I have to drop Imperfect from 5 to 2 stars. When I enrolled two years ago it was great but the last year and half has come with errors in almost every box and I am now cancelling deliveries for the next 6 months before I give them one more shot to see if they change their reliability standards. Instead of seeing real concern and changes all I get are automated courtesies and a refund but I should not have to micro manage the inventory and refund process for 6 out of 10 orders. This experience has been best described by another review from Christianne, which I will copy here: "I really wanted to support this company and their mission, but every week it gets harder. Every week I have to take inventory of what’s included in my box because every week there are missing items that if I don’t send a message I will be charged. I don’t have the double charges others have experienced but I do have the following issues regularly- * missing items and still charged * incredibly poor packing, milk container on top of bread, eggs, cilantro at bottom of the box, broken eggs, grape tomatoes all over box, etc. * delivered boxes placed in many different areas - twice we couldn’t find them due to being placed on driveway behind car or at neighbors house. * incorrect items sent. * occasionally soft and badly bruised veggies and fruit. Today our box was delivered and once I saw it was only one when usually we have two I knew something was up. All our veggies and fruit was missing, a complete box not delivered!! This is the day before Thanksgiving where we were counting on many of these items for our dinner. Now we need to try and get those items at the store on Thanksgiving day. Every week is turning into a gamble. We’ve been so loyal and patient but I just don’t see the promises of improvement. The biggest issues seem to be packing, order fulfillment, and delivery. Our interactions with the CSR have been pleasant and responsive but still no improvements. It actually seems to be getting worse. I like the products but sadly if things don’t get better soon I will have to leave. It must get old for IF to apologize daily...turn it around guys!!" --------- (original review, two years ago 5 stars) Love this service, love what you're doing- most of all I love that you take back the boxes!!! Prices are competitive and the offerings are wonderful and plenty (produce as well as non-produce). Also appreciate the flexibility for skipping orders when necessary and the fact that there's no membership dues/fees or required minimal order. Been a customer for about a year now and will continue to buy for some time. Highly recommend!
