Stopped in for lunch with my mom, daughter-in-law and 3 grandkids. Had been in a few years back and remembered the food was quite good. The old farm building is adorable and in a beautiful setting. There was no hostess, only 2 waitresses who seemed to be upset by all of the customers coming in and waiting for tables, us included. Took quite some time to be seated. Also long wait for a server to come to the table, which is understandable given the restaurant was very busy, however our server was not at all friendly, and again made us feel as though we were an inconvenience. She took our drink orders and brought those promptly, although she never refilled our iced tea and would not make eye contact when walking by our table. Our food took quite long. At least 45 minutes. When our food came and I asked for a cup of soup the server glared at me and actually huffed. She never stopped back to the table. We had to stop her as she went by to ask her for our check and she was quite rude as she raised her voice to tell us everyone was asking her for something at the same time. She then gave my mom the wrong check and realized this after she ran her card. This took quite some time to correct. She did apologize but did not appear to be sincere in doing so. I gave 3 stars as the food was good, however the service really put a damper on the experience. We understand restaurants are short staffed and very busy, however servers can still treat customers nicely. We were very patient, kind and respectful. When we see someone working hard, yet trying their best and maintaining their composure, we tip them very well. There is no excuse...
Read moreFor 15 years, I have so loved coming back into town and going to Jacks. It’s always been a favorite for my family. We have always expected a wait and slow service but it’s always been worth the wait. Today, we waited 20 minutes at the door to be acknowledged, then sat and waited 20 minutes to even be spoken to. No waters. No napkins. Nothing. Once we got our order in, we felt better because we knew it was happening soon. The soup came cold. Delicious soup but cold. Our server was never near to even tell her the soup was cold. We were so hungry, we just let it happen. I dream about the chicken salad and cranberry bread sandwich. It finally came and it wasn’t the same. After waiting so long (literally 3 years for this sandwich) I was so disappointed. It had maybe one piece of chicken in it, two grapes and the rest was a little Mayo and bread. After waiting for over an hour for this sandwich, to get such a small amount of chicken salad-I can’t tell you how disappointed we were. It used to be a large portion of chicken salad, this time it was minimal. After a $50+ lunch, no refills, no care for our table, no real service…I am so sad to say this will be the last time we will go to Jacks. I give a lot of grace for service industry as I’ve been in it for years and managed a restaurant. But today was deeply sad because of the lack of care of our table and the serving of our sandwiches that we have so loved for years. To feel like we were an inconvenience to the waitress is just devastating as we don’t...
Read moreI wish I could love this place. I absolutely adore the charm of the building, but I’m always left wanting a little something more. The building is cute but it is awful for acoustics. It gets so loud in here you can’t hear the person next to you. They don’t offer any gluten free alternatives aside from salad. So this was not the best place to take my gluten free child. He begrudgingly had the tuna salad which he said was pretty bland. Other kids had a ham sandwich from the kids menu. Just bread ham and cheese. Believe it or not, there are actually kids in this world that eat vegetables and would prefer a sandwich with something like lettuce or tomato on them. My mom and I both tried the harvest turkey sandwich; Turkey, cranberry and dill sauce on a cranberry oat bread. Well, it tasted OK, there was a lot that could’ve been added to the sandwich to make it really good. Lettuce, red onion, or even toasting the bread would have helped. It was a bit one dimensional. This place has potential to be something...
