Arlene n Tom's were a planned designation for Wife, daughter and I after visiting Space Farms Zoo and museum. We found it on Google food looked good so after the Zoo we drove the 14 miles to go. Arlene n Tom's is a cool cozy homely diner. We were greeted upon entering told sit were we like window view is cool. Right now it's road work going on so that's that.
Enough small talk let's get down to business why are we here. Drinks wife ordered cranberry juice my daughter and I ordered coffee. I just my daughter wants to be grown like her Dad. Now now youngin this isn't what you do stay in your lane LOL. French toast, scrabbled egg and bacon is what my wife ordered pancakes and scrabbled eggs my daughter's order. Now when I see corn beef hash on the menu I stop reading. This is back in the day eating for me childhood food.
Corn beef has platter is ordered hash eggs over easy home fries and rye toast. Daughter pancakes had a hint of vanilla in it nice touch. Wife food looked good and it must have been cause she cleaned her plate lol. Eggs were scrabbled hard with cheese perfect for wife and daughter. Ok enough of that let's talk about the hash is it homemade no that's not what I remembered it's from the can and I am ok with that. Eggs over easy good home fries crispy but not hard and dry nicely done. Coffee refills for me daughter tapped out on first cup went with cranberry juice like her Mommy.
We like the setting like the food I like the drive wife didn't like the drive lol. Owners having small talk with us keeping it engaging. All in all nice first...
Read moreAfter a day driving around the scenic Hudson Valley, we decided to find a local eatery. Arlene and Tom's came up in a search and was very close by. We decide to give it a try. It is a very local eatery which has been in existence for 50 years; and does not disappoint. Their sign says Home of the Meanyburger. So you have to order what a place is known for. Its one of the best burgers I have had. Also had an order of fries which were non greasy and had a very nice crisp. Perfect! Other orders were Fish and Chips, Ham on Rye with lettuce and tomato, and a Chicken Salad sandwich. Beverages were Boylan sodas. If you have never had Boylans, give it a try. Excellent, and it complimented lunch. Service was great at a comfortable price point. We did not get any dessert but the menu listed pies. I suspect they are very good and probably home made. We did, however, grabbed a few of the collasal chocolate chip cookies and an oatmeal raised cookie that were on the counter service area. All in all, it's a keeper place. There is a reason it's been around for fify years. Consistent purveyors of fine vittles. If you are in the Port Jervis area, you must stop...
Read moreOver the last few years, my boyfriend and I have frequented this place whenever we’re in the Port Jervis area. We love to support small, and service the first few times was phenomenal. The last few times however, customer service has left us fairly disappointed. We visited this past weekend, and were met with a poor attitude from our waitress. When asked, we agreed for refills, and when they were brought to our table the remaining drink from our first “round” were dumped into our new half full glasses, and our waitress took our straws out of our drinks and placed them into our new ones. I’m not saying her hands were dirty, but I don’t think any of us appreciate a strangers hands on something that is going into our mouths. We have had this waitress a few times and she just overall seems pretty miserable. Shoves things around the table, instead of just asking us to move anything to accommodate her, which we would have no problem doing. On the plus side, food is always good, and prices are relatively cheap. Don’t know if we’ll be returning based on our last few experiences, but definitely worth stopping by and forming your...
