So this was my first experience at Macs Drive In in Pendleton, SC had the Cheeseburger Plate with fries. Went in service was quick and received my order quickly, that’s the good news. Now for the bad news. I went in saw that the Ice chest was open and exposed to the elements safety violation 1. Safety violation 2 the cook had received a new order from an elderly lady I believe she order the Hot dog plate .her Fries where finished and the cook decided to plate her fries without any gloves, BTW I didn’t see gloves anywhere, and the grill and fryer are in direct eye sight of the bar at where I was seated. When I went to pay the bill the cashier/server brought a kitten safety violation 3 into the restaurant without any hesitation. So unfortunately due to all these health violations I will not eat here again. Background of me I am a Chef and have been in the food service industry for 20+ years I have been an Executive Chef as well as lead and senior cook. I truly hope that these violations will be looked at and taken into consideration before anyone chooses to dine at...

They say that you haven’t been to Clemson until you’ve eaten at this classic spot at least once.

I had lunch at Mac’s Drive In in Clemson. Such a treasure! It has been in operation since 1956, making this one of the oldest running spots in Pickens County… although it may be the oldest restaurant.

This is a very small diner that has lots of Clemson memorabilia and a traditional short-order menu. The best part is that the food is very affordable, even in today’s times. Just make sure to bring cash because they don’t accept cards. But, there is an ATM machine inside for your convenience.

I got their classic cheeseburger. This is a no-frills kind of cheeseburger, kinda smash-style because the meat is really thin. Nothing artisan or fancy about it, it’s just tasty. 😊 I really loved their beer battered onion rings…crispy and HUGE!! And what’s a visit to a classic spot without a milkshake!?

If you’re a Clemson fanatic or just love visiting historical places, Mac’s Drive In is...

Never been here before but have driven past a few times. So new to the area and wanted to get lunch while at work, so I figured ide try here. Let me tell you, the atmosphere was a bit stale and small for one and the food was stale as well. I walk into what I thought was a mom and pop family diner, but it is small and stuff every where. I ordered a cheese burger extra cheese and a side of fries.. So I end up with a burger that has like a half peice of cheese and the meat is grizzle and the bun was hard on all edges and the fries were hard and had no salt at all. I paid 8 dollars for stale hard food.. I was amped to try this place and now after one burger I'll never go back. And as for staff .. there was some guy in the back by the grill who was staring at me like i was a crook....

The good. Food was served up as it was made and hot. The bread was nicely toasted and the lettuce and tomato were fresh. The bad. They say they open at 11, it's more like when everyone decides to show up while customers wait in the parking lot. In my case, 11:15. The hamburger patties are frozen pre-made. Nothing exceptional. The fries were fair, over cooked. The ugly. The owner as others have stated is not welcoming, doesn't smile or acknowledge, and looks at a new customer as though he might rob the bank. Waitress was very talkative with food prep people and didn't ask about how things were until the last bite was being taken. At least she said "have a good one" when I left. Not impressed, I shall not return.

Amazing burgers and conversation! Today was our 2nd time visiting and it was better than the last. We permanently moved here today and had to visit. We forgot it was cash only and offered to leave my wife there while I go get cash (lol) and to my amazement, Pat told me to just pay the next time we come in! THAT’S one of the reasons we moved here! Old town people with old town values. Honesty, integrity, and they treat you like family. Thanks Mac’s and Pat for the Southern Hospitality! BTW...the double cheeseburger is the best!
