I'm local, but I've only been here twice. The first time, we ordered 2 pizzas and breadsticks. It took an hour and a half. We were hungry when we got there, so we were very hungry when we got the food. It was decent food. I thought maybe the wait time was a fluke.

The second time we ate, we ordered ahead of time. My wife placed the order, and I went to pick up. The older lady at the counter was snarky and downright rude. I politely asked how much longer the food would take, honestly wondering the answer. She replied, "well they told you 6:30, so 20 more minutes." I thought it was somewhat rude, but didn't think much of it. Then when my visiting father paid with cash, she very rudely said "you people and your cash," as if it were some burden on them. We got our food at 6:45, 15 minutes late. It would have been later, but my wife texted me and said she had received a text that it was done. They had it in the back for who knows how long. Then the older lady followed us out to the parking lot because she thought she gave us the wrong order. She went through all five boxes, worried that she had given us someone else's pizza. She was nicer to us in the parking lot, presumably because she thought she had screwed up. Not sure if I'll give them another shot. After reading some of the other reviews, it seems this isn't unusual treatment...

We’ve been searching Michigan for the perfect “burger” and after three years of eating examples all over the State, I believe we just might have found a serious contender for the #1 spot. The burger is a mixture of brisket, tenderloin and ribeye. The Kaiser roll was toasted perfectly, the lettuce and tomato looked very fresh. The only option offered was would you like cheese and and what kind would I like? Gouda, of course… We sat at the bar waiting for our to go meal and had an impressive craft IPA. Oh, the burgers were cooked to perfection, her’s medium and mine, rare as they were willing to go. Rare? Yup, I know… but if they are willing to go rare ( and it was) that tells me three things. 1: They trust their supplier, 2: They know how to store and prep it, 3: They have an excellent chef that knows how to correctly cook a rare burger. It’s not as easy as you think. The staff was excellent and the bar area was immaculate. As a side note, speed is not their forte, bit of a wait as the kitchen is small. But, it was well worth the wait.

As an update to the original review, one year later, we still haven’t found a place that makes a burger like...

Sauce, suds, served on a bed of surly. Stopped in since it’s near our rental cabin and once we told them we wanted to eat outside, it was a “serve yourself, you’re on your own, wait in line” mentality. Ok, we can do that. Bartender was surly and very inhospitable. We just wanted some recommendations on the microbrews on tap. Once she knew we wanted to dine outside, it was a scolding of what we could and couldnt drink outside. Ok, ok…we understand we’re lower level customers since we want to sit in your lovely beer garden on a beautiful evening. There will be NO SERVICE and now our drinking options are limited. Once they beat the NO SERVICE into our heads, we were able to order a beer and our food, sit outside and wait, then go inside and retrieve our food. Pizza was good, chicken wrap was not. They acted like we were a pain in their side. When we went back in to use the restrooms, we got major stink-eye. Not locals, never been here before, don’t know the rules, never...

Pizza with a side of FLIES! There were plenty of open seats but service was terribly slow. We were told pizzas would take 20-30 min - which is pretty normal. After almost an hour we got our pizzas. Which in the time it took for us to get our pizza we were swarmed with fruit flies. They were everywhere. On our drinks, covering the wall and pictures. So many to the point we didn't want to be eating inside and would rather eat in our car. We were told good things about this place so sadly it was pretty horrible. The food was good (after eating in our car) Our server only stopped by 4 times during the whole time. To bring us water and take our food and drink order, drop off drinks, drop off pizza, and give us the check. So for being in there for over an hour and 20 minutes that seems crazy to us. The server was rude when trying to pay as she said everyone is trying to do the same thing..... This is the type of experience I would expect at a low run DENNY'S.....

EDIT: Its been years since my first review and I just want to say this is still my favorite place to stop in and have a pizza and cold drink after a day spent hiking or laying on the beach. Perfect end to lazy summer days spent on Lake Michigan. I will be moving soon and will miss Market 22 tremendously. I just had to leave an update on this hidden gem. Went for a hike with my hubby, afterwards we were starving and he said he wanted to stop by this Market he passed by the other day. I said sure, not really caring, just wanted a snack. OMG! This place is amazing! The food was honestly so freaking good, and you get SO much of it. We both got sandwiches, I got the Sweet Caroline, he got the Bohemian. Table next to us got salads and the Detroit style pizza, my mouth was watering. Going back latter this week to try those out as well. They also have some baked goods and pastries from 9 Bean Row, and a small bar. Fell in love with this place!

This was written on May 30th and edited on the 31st. We used to love bringing the family here several times a year and this year we found the place permanently barring people in the store as a result of a temporary COVID panic I guess? We used to have wonderful salads, sandwiches, beer, wine, etc. What made it necessary to erect this PERMANENT barricade? Used to be you could come inside, shop, eat, etc. I also posted a photo of a place less than a mile down the road taken only 5 minutes after the Market 22 photo. At least half these people could be spending money at Market 22 but the photos tell the story. 1st photo, no business, no future. 2nd photo, taking all the business the 1st photo could have. I would love to see Market 22 the way it was two summers ago. Please explain what has happened here, and sorry for the harsh review. This is just very disappointing.
