I visited on a Saturday evening to get a quick last-Saturday-of-summer dinner to go with some ice cream from neighboring Peterson’s. What a clever concept to turn an old filling station into a quaint pub in a quaint Northern Virginia town. The neighborhood feel is apparent with the patrons and the staff, and the staff exude a friendly vibe and seem to enjoy working with each other and customers. I predictably received the same kind of service with the relatively short meal I had: Mac dog without cheese sauce and tater tots followed by a burger with onions and mushrooms and sweet potato fries. Food arrived within reasonable times, especially given the rather busy outdoor patio the staff were serving as well.
The hot dog came with a toasted bun which was a much appreciated small detail unfortunately not all eateries get right. The cook on the hot dog tasted great and the accompanying chili went well. I found the chili a little sparse and tomatoey for my taste, but others have and will enjoy this version as an accompaniment or a dish itself I am sure. The tater tots have a childhood association with me, so I really enjoy when I taste hot, crisp tots as these were. I requested a burger temperature of medium rare and got what I saw as close to that temperature given the thickness of the patty. The freshness of the garnishes was welcome to cut the fattiness of the burger, especially the crisp pickle chips and tomato slices. As a very minor quibble, I would have liked the bun to be toasted as the hot dog bun was. The sweet potato fries were cooked about as well as could be. They arrived hot, not over fried or oily at all, and as crispy as anyone could get sweet potato fries to be. Thoroughly enjoyable from first fry to last fry.
The total bill came to just under $30 including a non-alcoholic drink and excluding tax and tip. I felt like I received a satisfying value for my stop, and I could return again to try other sandwiches and possibly a breakfast offering or two given other reviews of these offerings. The novelty of this place plus the local neighborly nature of the staff as well as the skill around the grill and fryer all together make for a truly and uniquely...
Read moreGreat place to enjoy a nice meal and atmosphere right by the railroad tracks. It has a front seating area where you can comfortably sit and relax for a bit. You can buy drinks and a snack and just sit out there. Out front it’s very cozy and they don’t have dedicated service, but they do have a takeout counter and you can relax out there as long as you want. This is looking the main street, so you can do a lot of people watching, relax, relaxation, and just taking the wonderful view of this wonderful town of Clifton. There is also plenty of parking, and you cannot miss it. The food is pretty good, their mac & cheese is outstanding. Their club sandwiches very tasty. They have a great selection of bar drinks, depending on the season, which are very creative and delicious. The service is attentive and kind. Today we had Emma and she was outstanding. There’s outdoor seating and indoor as well. You can definitely have a good conversation, although they play music it’s not so loud that you can’t hear yourself. It’s a good spot for a first date, for a family outing or just to hang with your LO. Also there are some benches to the right next to the railroad tracks where you can sit and do people watching or take a rest. If you’re in Clifton, you shouldn’t miss hitting the...
Read moreNestled in one of the most charming towns in Northern Virginia, Main Street Pub is a true gem that made for a fantastic Saturday night out. My wife and I stopped in and were pleasantly surprised to find live music the performer was excellent and really set a great atmosphere.
We started the evening with a couple of cocktails, which were well crafted and a perfect complement to the relaxed vibe. For appetizers, we ordered the quesadilla and the tuna tartare. Our server was phenomenal she took great care of us throughout the night and went out of her way to customize one of the appetizers to our liking.
It was clear the kitchen has some serious talent everything we tried was prepared perfectly and presented beautifully. From the friendly staff to the quality of the food and the welcoming environment, this place delivered on all fronts.
