We were traveling through the area, driving home. The 3 of us were discussing getting barbecue in Kansas City, maybe 40 minutes down the road. We decided we needed a quick stop somewhere and Mallard's Roadhouse popped up on Google maps. Unanimous decision to stop. We are glad we did! The restaurant was busy, so we asked if we could wait at the bar for a table. We didn't get to sit down as a table was prepared immediately. Sat down and the waitress was waiting to take our drink orders! We admired the inside of the restaurant thinking drinks would take a bit. Before we even grabbed a menu, we had our teas and water! The waitress asked if we wanted any appetizers. Picked the breaded green beans. We looked at the menus and told the waitress we needed a little time. As soon as we laid our menus down, she was right there to take our orders! She walked away and another server brought our piping hot appetizers! We had not even been in the building 10 minutes! After another 10 minutes our orders were ready! Huge portions! Each plate could've been split between 2 people! We all took boxes home! I could not empty my glass! The waitress was there with a refill quickly! Great waitress, awesome service, scrumptious food that was better than expected, marvelous atmosphere! We will be back on our next roadtrip through! Outstanding! (Note: Though the name has "Mallard" in it, no, they don't have duck on the menu! :) )

Late lunch meal (Monday). Place was rather full with customers, minimal delay until we were seated and our orders taken. Clean inviting environment. Entrees: Catfish, fish sandwich, chicken strips, and boom boom tacos. Catfish - good stuff, minimal seasoning allowing each consumer to season to taste. Fish sandwich, Cajun style - minimal Cajun taste to the fish let alone the fish when eaten as a sandwich. Toppings and bread were terrific (fresh toppings, nice crisp on the bread). Chicken strips - dry with way too much breading. Much of it was dry and stringy. Boom boom tacos - the shrimp are NOT deveined, free shrimp poop for all. Not deveining larger shrimp is a huge red flag, I’ve never heard a customer request shrimp poop and I’m unsure why any restaurant would give us free shrimp feces, completely not ok (pic of shrimp poop included in pics). Fries - about one out of seven fries were partially frozen. Fresh made fries would either be all cold or all hot, strongly suggesting the fries were frozen and reheated/microwaved then taken out to our table. Coleslaw and baked beans both tasted good and were enjoyed during our meal. All food came out room temperature at best, much was cooler.

We camp @ Sparrowfoot frequently and have driven past Mallard's every trip and never stopped until today. Wanted a tenderloin sandwich so googled "near me." Mallard's came up, so we took the chance and THANK God we did!!! The staff was amazing.. went in and asked if they did to go orders she said yes, handed me a menu... I looked it over and, within moments, placed an order to go, got an iced tea, and waited at the bar for my order. They were busy, as it was lunchtime, but SUPER friendly staff kept my drink full and chatted with me while I waited even though I was only getting to go. Spoke with a gentleman eating at the bar (learned he built the place), and it came up how I googled to find a tenderlion. He said could have just asked Google the best place to eat in Clinton and Mallard's will be top of the list- did it while eating our food at Katy Trail park and he was correct #1 was Mallards and I can see why... the food was delicious and the sandwiches were so big we ate half and brought the rest back to camp to warm up for dinner. As I walked out with my food, he said, "You'll enjoy it, and you'll be back." And he was right on both counts.👍👍

My son and I drove 65miles to try out your restaurant and at first was very impressed. Not to say that the atmosphere or food wasn’t good from what I took home “to go,” but we won’t be back. I requested a table away from the door due to the weather being chilly and the waitress mentioned it would be maybe a 10 min wait which we were ok with. As we sat waiting, I noticed a table in the middle of the restaurant was vacant so I asked if we could be seated at it. We were the only ones not seated and there was 3 tables open a 5 chair hi top by the doorway and two 6 chair regular tables towards the middle. The lady behind the bar proceeded to tell me they save those tables for larger parties. I mentioned no other patrons were waiting for a table and we shouldn’t be made to wait because of a “possibe group” that wasn’t a sure bet. She proceeded to say, you know where I’m coming from. I said, I do, but being a restaurant manager myself, u don’t make customers wait if u have empty tables and zero others waiting. She was short and irritated and changed the entire tone of our visit. We were seated at the table of choice, but both my son and I both had already lost the vibe from our encounter. I did spend $30 on a to go bag and the food would have been great but, not happy with that treatment. Not with dropping $65-$70 to be treated rudely because of a group...

I have lived in Clinton for 3 years and today was my first time to eat at Malards. To say I was pleasantly surprised would be an understatement. I heard they were overpriced with mediocre food at best. But from my experience today, they have really good food at normal restaurant prices. Our server was the bartender and yet she still gave us great service even though we were at a table and not belly up. She didn't wear a name tag so I can't give you her name, but she got us refills before our glasses were empty, she gave us time to look at the menu and made lots of recommendations even after hearing that I had to be gluten free. She made sure we were informed about our food coming out, she checked back to make sure our food was up to par. Really great service, really good food! I highly recommend it! My friend got a cheeseburger and seasoned fries, which he was really good. I got the Roadhouse brisket salad, which I thought would have shavings of brisket I was prepared to be underwhelmed, but it had some thick super tender pieces. I was so glad I got that, however I was kicking myself for not getting a brisket plate (unsure if they have one). Being from Texas it's hard to find good brisket, but Malards has got some and I will...
