My overall grade for Yuta is: C-
Let's start with the initial impressions: Property - spectacular, it's situated basically next door to the High West distillery, which is how we ended up at Yuta. High West was closed and I didn't check their hours. Rolling up to the building, there are a couple valets that are super friendly and take your car. The person behind the desk immediately upon entering, I assume is to check you in if you're staying in the hotel which is another spectacular looking place that I would love to experience. The restaurant itself is also just as beautiful The kitchen is accented by a pair of Argentina-style wood-burning grills. Greeted by a very friend person - sat at.a beautiful table with an amazing view.
The lunch menu looked very interesting. There is also a dedicated drinks menu. My wife selected a glass of pinot noir - which our server came out with the bottle so that she can try it before committing to it. Very nice touch. I chose a Winter Breeze - which I thought was just ok - but that's what you get when you order something "interesting'.
I started with the roasted eggplant soup - sounds interesting, right? We both ordered their hamburger upon which, our server warned us that since the burger was a double patty, we should be "really hungry". Solution: We decided to split the burger.
After an appropriate amount of time, we started to wonder why my appetizer soup had not yet come out. I looked around for my server and he was walking to our table with our main course (burger). The restaurant made a great presentation of "the split entree". They individually portioned the French fries for both of us - very nice. After we had settled in to our main course, my "appetizer" soup came out. Hmm...
So - the soup - super interesting and the flavor of the wood-grilled eggplant surely came through. However, it was severely under-seasoned. No saving that. No salt on the table...
The burger - was actually appropriately sized for one person to eat. If you go there and the server tells you the burger is HUGE, don't sweat it - you can eat it. Still no problem.
The burger itself was also under-seasoned. Another disappointment.
We asked to see the dinner menu just in case, maybe dinner would be their strong suit vs the lunch menu. And the dinner menu looks amazing. We will probably come back for dinner and see if they just had a mis-step at lunch.
The final insult was really our own fault, but I would think the restaurant could own. a little bit of this: Since I had a business call to take during the last part of the meal, my wife took the check and paid for the meal. Upon seeing her total the check, I was astonished that 1 hamburger and 2 drinks for lunch would come out of almost $100. After the server came by to settle up - I noticed on the menu at the very bottom in very very small print: FOR YOUR CONVENIENCE, we automatically add a 20% gratuity on your bill. My wife didn't see it, and she also didn't do a full review of the itemized bill which plainly had gratuity added to it. UGH.
Please, please, please!!!! Restaurants, when you do this, it's only nice manners to inform your guests that you've helped yourself to our wallet and added a gratuity of the restaurant's choosing "FOR YOUR CONVENIENCE"... UGH!
So - would I go back.- yes, for dinner to see if lunch was a mis-step. But I will be much wiser even if the server doesn't appropriately notify us that they add a gratuity to the bill as they see fit, and will fail to notify you...
Read moreIf I could give this place zero stars, I would. I had an uncomfortable and dispiriting experience dining at Yuta. I dined in with a group of friends and our server went out of her way to ignore me and make me feel like an unwelcomed guest. She took drink orders in a circle, skipped over me, and didn't circle back to take my order--I had to interrupt and inform her that I wanted a drink. She also went out of her way--in an obvious manner, I wasn't the only one in our group to notice--to serve me last, even when it was more inconvenient and counterintuitive for her to do so. She made a disparaging comment about my order of choice and was all around rude to me, specifically.
The fact that I was singled out for this treatment made it so that her motives in doing so were pretty transparent. I would think that in 2021 places, and especially places like this, which have a higher price point for their services, would do better than to allow their preconceived biases and prejudice to cloud how they treat their guests. I obviously cannot speak to this person's specific feelings or why she acted the way she did, but I can say that it felt gross and uncomfortable and that on a night where I should've been focused on being with my friends for the first time since COVID began, I was instead focused on this person's misconduct.
Even more disappointing? The fact that I called and spoke to the person in charge of dining services at the lodge and despite telling me they would get to the bottom of this within 1-2 days, I never got a call back, not even an update--it's been over a week and a half. It does not take that long to look into something, especially a matter such as this which they claimed was of utmost importance to them. I was not going to write a review, but felt compelled to since this matter couldn't be resolved with direct communication. I'm sad that I ever gave this place any money and will not be returning nor...
