Pastry and More — Restaurant in Coeur d'Alene

Summary of below rant: my experience was a 1 star but I'm angry about several things and don't want ALL future business to be affected by my one experience. They may have failed me but I know they are better than what I got.

Cake tasted amazing Decoration should have been done better based on their previous work. Service was non existent after cake was paid for they stopped caring.

Cake was delivered with no box and nothing to put leftover cake in. (To be fair a box was never promised or talked about by Pastry and More but the catering company thought it was beyond strange and they had never seen a cake delivered bare with nothing to store leftovers in)

The cake itself tasted fantastic, a few of my guests "could have done better" but I doubt it. Our cake was outside in December so the texture was a little off from being cold but that's not Pastry and Mores responsibility so 10/10 for cake flavor and texture. (The room temperature leftover cake was the best I've ever had.)

The decoration and lack of care is what gets the 1 star review. These people are professionals. They should have foreseen that I would have needed a box. Had I been asked if I wanted storage boxes at an extra cost I would have laid the extra cost. Once they got their money though I never heard from them again. Is a 3 minute phone call to check in and confirm everything is going fine too much to ask for customer service?

The decoration was another huge let down. And this could have probably been remedied by followup calls instead of going off the conversation and drawing we had half a year before the wedding. What they have on display isn't the same quality I got. Mine looked like a rushed replica done by someone with far less experience.

The cake was supposed to be textured like tree bark but silver. Instead we got smooth silver chunks that resembled slugs in a bucket. I wanted the design to look like a willow tree but got a pine tree. I'm sure this is my fault for not calling every weekend to make sure they understood what I paid for months in advance. I'm sure the bakery or decorator couldn't spare even 30 minutes to ask me to come in one last time beforehand to finalize the design and confirm our vision.

If you want to use this company for your wedding I do honestly recommend it. But you have to make sure you communicate with them because they will not call you. If you can leave them pictures of textures you want because the decorator doesn't get the memo when you only show them what you want and it doesn't get translated into the drawing well. I should have trusted my gut and scheduled a follow-up meeting closer to my wedding but I assumed my gut reaction was a lack of experience on my end not a lack of...

We have ordered from Pastry and More on several occasions. We have always been thrilled with their quality products, service and consistency. Today was no exception! We were driving around the Coeur d’Alene Hayden area to different bakeries trying out a few different products for a bridal shower. Pastry and More won hands down. We had the most delicious Petit Fours which were beautifully decorated, moist, delicate and flavor second to none. We also tried their Orange Rolls…Indescribable I would say. Flaky, Tender, Melt in your mouth morsels from heaven bursting with citrus orange flavor.. Kate who helped us with our order was “over the top”. I can not imagine my family holidays without Pastry and More's tasty yet elegant Holiday treats. Recently we had a very special cake made for my niece. The owners at the bakery made a point of not only having a masterpiece for my eyes with the cute penguin cookies, lollipops and ribbons on the cake, it also tasted fresh with the strawberry whipped filling. I grew up around cakes. If you are looking for the ultimate in cakes. Go to Pastry and More. Their cake decorator is Extremely talented and award winning. The owners also have exceptional customer service. Even though they were closed they took the time to let me pick up this very special cake for my niece's birthday. It was the same kind she had made for her wedding from Pastries and More but didn't get to eat! You made it a day to remember for this brave survivor. Thank you for your over the top service...
