First time and and last. I’ve had their bagels from a local coffee shop- and they’re amazing. The staff working here at Rustic has ZERO coffee training. In the 10-15 minutes I was here I watched the barista pull multiple 10 second shots, reuse those same grounds to pull second shots and burn the ever loving god out of Almond milk. Additionally, the same ground coffee that’s used for their black coffee is what’s used for their espresso. First of all, the grind shouldn’t be the same, that’s why their shots are all so short, they’re using way too coarse ground coffee. Also how are they ensuring they have the proper weight/amount of grounds in their portafilter without a real espresso grinder? Secondly, every coffee strain is different but ideally your espresso should be a minimum of 18 seconds and max of 24-26 depending on the roast. The almond milk situation literally had my eyes bugging out of my head, had the barista been holding the pitcher of milk and air-rating it properly, they’d have known it was done well before they took it off. I HIGHLY suggest there be a re-training for coffee and customer service. I was never greeted and all three staff members asked the other to help me. Two different people were checking messages on their phones with their food prep gloves on. I was seen as an inconvenience and it was really rude, customers are the purpose of your work not an interruption. I went out of my way to not order coffee or prepared food based on what I saw. I got a sleeve of bagels and left. And I regret getting the sleeve bc of the poor standards, but after waiting there that long I felt silly not buying something. I’ve spend plenty of time in the coffee industry and what I saw today was an absolute travesty. When was the last time a hot bleach rag was taken to any surface here? The bagels are worth the risk but I’m starting to wonder at WHAT cost. Go to Milk and Honey to get really good coffee and one of their bagels bc it beats the experience of having to step foot inside of Rustic. I’ve come back to this post twice to add more, because of how bad the entire situation was. Since your hours are so short, maybe make one of these afternoons a mandatory re-training, or first time training since the staff...
Read moreFor context: I live in downtown Coeur d’Alene and I’be been eating at rustic ever since they’ve opened. And I remember their food being really good and their customer service being decent. But the past few times I’ve been there the experience has been subpar to say the least. The reason I’m writing this review today is because my experience today was particularly horrid. We ordered online, three paninis, they’ve been selling paninis since the beginning so we knew which ones we liked. We get our time, 12:10, twenty minutes after ordering. I show up ten minutes after that time to give more time to prepare, it’s a busy time of day after all. So I get there ten minutes late and then I have to wait another ten minutes in line at the ordering station because no ones taking orders. I was second in line but the line kept getting longer and still no one came. When someone did come they told me that after forty minutes with my order of three sandwiches they still weren’t ready. So I sat and waited, telling myself it would be worth it for the sandwiches. I get them after about five minutes of waiting (the sandwiches are now 25 minutes late). I take them home and open my sandwiches and notice it’s pretty sloppily put together. I ordered for myself a Brie and apple and I can’t help but notice there’s almost no Brie compared to what’s usually served in these sandwiches. I bite into it and I don’t know if the Brie was old or they ran out or didn’t wash their knives before cutting but it did not taste right at all. On top of that my honey was very messily applied, all over my crust and the outer part of the sandwich, which isn’t a huge problem on its own but with everything else..... So the food was almost 30 minutes late and when I got it it was sloppy and didn’t taste right. I used to go to rustic all the time, but if this is how they’re doing things now I just can’t support them. If you want a good sandwich downtown just go to whoops, it’s right around the corner from rustic and they have better food and service. TLDR: I used to like rustic but they have terrible service and messed up my food,...
Read moreMy wife, two kids and I went in on 3/26. A Saturday afternoon. We knew it would be busy and were fine with waiting. We ordered a kids Mac and cheese, Brie apple panini, cheese pizza slice and a Philly cheese steak. The girl at the counter said there are no cheese slices right now but if I don’t mind waiting they could make one. I said that would be fine and ordered and we sat down. After 30 minutes the mac and cheese came out and the Brie apple sandwich but no Philly cheese steak. They gave me a pepperoni pizza slice and I said we ordered cheese. They said we don’t have cheese but they can make one but it would be another 20 minutes. I was very nice and said no we always waited 30 minutes so if they could just sprinkle cheese and cover the pepperoni that would be fine. They said sure but they didn’t do that. Instead they took the pepperoni off and put cheese and stuck in back in the oven so we had to wait 10 more minutes for the slice. When I asked about the Philly cheese steak they said it was coming so I waited another 10 minutes for that. They brought out the Philly cheese steak and attempted to give it to a man who had only just recently arrived. The rest of us had already eaten so I grabbed the Philly cheese steak and the lady at the counter said it wasn’t ours. But a second ago she said it was coming out. Clearly they messed up our order and they she thought I was someone else and instead of trying to make it right she tried saying I was wrong. I took the sandwich and walked away and the guy came and threatened me causing a huge scene in the restaurant. This was not ok service at all nor was this handled properly. We waited over an hour and never got what we ordered and were...
