My friends and I were very excited to dine here tonight for my birthday. My spouse surprised me with reservation and although we had a relatively large party, we were patient and having a good time as things got off to a slow start.
We were warned that things were very busy and to expect a 30 minute wait for sushi but that hot food would be out faster. No problem. The first plate of hot food came out about 45 minutes in and then additional dishes trickled out every 10-15 minutes. We weren't going to eat until everyone's food came out because no one wants to eat in front of their hungry friends. About 1.5 hours in the first sushi started coming out but two of us still had not received our hot entrees. We asked if they had been forgotten and were met with extreme confusion and then things took a quick turn for the worse when the staff came to tell us that they had already served us those dishes and didn't understand why we were trying to ask them for them again. We had to count plates and prove to the staff that we had not been served those entrees.
Shortly after the rest of the food made it's way out and we ate our cold food and sushi. Some of us never received drinks we ordered and when our bills came out there were no discounts considering the awkward blaming situation. There was also 18% gratuity built into our bills due to the party size which I'd imagine should have been removed based on the number of errors and the staff choosing to argue with us after forgetting to serve us.
Overall the meal took just under three hours and we weren't offered any compensation for the arguing or numerous mistakes until we asked at which point the two forgotten entrees were comped. The food was mostly quite tasty and the decor was nice and the space was clean. Our waitress herself stayed composed and polite the whole time and so did we, but other staff were definitely flustered.
Hopefully this experience was a fluke as many other diners obviously enjoy eating here. Definitely a rough night for us and we missed our after dinner plans because of the length...
Read moreWent on Saturday evening around 8pm, had about a 25 minute wait but it seemed like we did get sat sooner, and it did seem like there were two levels of dining. The takayoki app was incredible and honestly we could have ordered multiple apps and been more than happy with it all. Then we both get two rolls a piece. I really enjoyed them all however if you want to come here and get rolls that are "within the norms of the other local sushi places" this is not the place and probably my only really large complaint as several rolls had items like lettuce or it was spicy in some manner between spicy tuna spicy mayo, siracha, mustard sauce, spicy salmon etc, which can make it hard for those who aren't a fan.. Most of the rolls are outside of what is normally offered in spokane/cda areas but that is probably in my opinion what makes this place so unique on the flip side of that same coin. It was all pretty good and tasty. The service was probably the most lacking I've had at a sushi restaurant in the area and was definitely a bit on the slow side but it seemed like it was one waiter to a lotttttt of tables and we typicallydont mind waits etc the issue was more so the lack of anything else like checking in, getting the check promptly etc. Overall a fun experience with beautifuly presented food and an okay selection of non-sushi items for those who dont enjoy it (although we didnt get to try any of it outside of the app). Will definitely be back at some point or another down the road for more and to give it another...
Read moreThis should be 0 stars. I've read these reviews and I cannot fathom that these people were in the same restaurant as me.
We ordered yellowtail jalapeno and avocado bombs for appetizers. The Yellowtail Jalapeno was the best thing we had - very simple and boring but well flavored. The avocado bombs are... Well, bombs. Gross. Messy fried stuffed full of fake nasty krab. Absolutely inedible. My husband ate 2 because he was starving but I couldn't even stomach one.
I should have known when I looked at the menu that we were in for grocery store sushi. Every roll is filled with fake krab or spicy tuna or "mixed fish" lol. We tried 5 different ones. None of them had any vegetables in them so they had no texture. Mushy gross, lukewarm rolls. Cat food texture. Rolled poorly. Flavors were not there, everything was sooooooo nasty. Nothing was cold enough and nothing was fresh. Not a vegetable or crunch to be found. They love to use raw panko on rolls (ew?) or on random dishes - I don't understand why. Honestly, Yokes has better sushi lol and it's rolled right there.
Besides the food being atrocious, the service was poor and the atmosphere was gross as we were by the hand washing sink. A half wall would solve this problem, but honestly they should fix their food...
