I came from a town where a lot of Thai people lived and I love Thai food. Like other reviews state, it's easy to order as a vegan with a vegetarian section that marks which dishes are vegan. There's a good selection.
Food: My Pad Thai wasn't Thai because it was too sweet. I don't know if they add sugar, corn starch or they use a sweet siracha, but it was too sweet to me. I'm sure some purple would like it. Also, my wife just asked for lime and Thai Basil and that made it wayyyy better. I was surprised there was no Thai Basil in the dish.
My fried spring rolls were very tasty, but was surprised when they arrived how small they were. I wasn't paying good attention to the picture on the menu and it is represented accurately, but I've never seen a spring roll smaller than a baby carrot. There wasn't much content. They only tasted good because deep fried dough tastes good, but there was hardly enough vegetable to affect the flavor. I think I'll try the fresh spring roll next time I'm here.
Quantity of food: Some reviews say it was a lot of food for the money. For casual food pricing it would be considered a moderately small portion, but for sit down dining, I would consider the portion average. Maybe I just ordered different dishes than those other reviews. The fried spring rolls were definitely a small portion for the price even for sit down dining prices
Service: The people are friendly. We got greeted quickly. They seemed 2 people understaffed, but that is a common problem in my area because of lack of workers so I wouldn't fault them for that It did make the service a little slower than we expected. We were not rolling about the lunch menu and it was lunch time. By the time we ordered we saw that menu because we were still exploring it and we phablet would've ordered from it. Also, we were 10 minutes from Happy Hour and we weren't told about that option either. Knowing about both would have made a difference in our experience and we probably would have ordered more food to try different things.
Price: Like I already stated, it's in line with sit down dining pricing, not casual pricing. We bought 1 appetizer and 1 entree shared between my wife and I and spent $$38 after tax and tip and did not feel satisfied for that price, hence bought an impossible burger within 15 minutes of leaving.
I would return here but I wouldn't go out of my way and it would not be my first choice. It's a beautiful restaurant, so I hope they get a new chef to...
Read moreWe’ve been regulars at Thai Bamboo for years. After searching for a good Thai restaurant, we were told this was the one for us. And it has been for years, until yesterday.
We don’t eat out that much anymore because of the way inflation has impacted all restaurants. So when we do go out for dinner, we look for good food, service and yes, we do look at the value given for our dollars. In the past, Thai Bamboo easily fulfilled all of those needs. But that was until yesterday. What a major disappointment!
Our spring rolls were burnt. Not a little, but a lot. The waitress ‘explained’ that this sometimes happens because of sugar content within. She said she tried one and could not taste any burn, but did offer to replace them. I tried them and although different, I could eat them. My wife could not.
Our main meal was good with ample portions of everything except rice. In the past, we’ve taken our leftovers home and had a second meal, with Thai Bamboo including enough rice to make a complete meal for both of us. We asked to have containers and extra rice.
Thai Bamboo has a loyalty program of which we’ve been long time members. They’re currently pitching a new and improved version, but as I said we were already members and have participated in the program for years. Yesterday’s visit included none of the said perks. None. “Our system is down.”
So the check was full price. No discount, no partial comp for the burnt spring rolls - nothing but an additional charge for two take home portions of rice. This is far from what we expected as our prior experiences have always been superb and this was the place that we always referred others to when looking for great Thai food. No more.
Sad to see this happen, but more and more, people are becoming acutely aware of how they spend their money. This, for us, was a game changer. Now we have one less choice...
Read moreComing from Western WA, our family needed a new Asian type cuisine. We definitely took for granted how much access we had over there to ethnic cooking.
Looked great and we were so very stoked to try Thai Bamboo.
We were disappointed, so very very disappointed. Wait staff were friendly, when they actually came to check on our table. The menu was overwhelming. Once we all had chosen, our waitress asked us our desired spicy preference. It was a choice of 0-5, all of us chose 1-5, as there were 5 of us.
An hour and fifteen minutes later, we received our dishes. And all but one had zero heat. My son who chose 4 on the spicey scale barely had a kick. I was able to eat it and I cannot tolerate spicey. So why even ask us our desired rating?
The sweet and sour chicken tasted and looked like it came out of a can and almost resembled raviolis. The dipping sauce was watery it didn't really coat anything to adjust the taste. All of our food had cold and some frozen spots, like it was heated up in the microwave. My other son said the crab bites had no vrab amd was jist full of cream cheese. (Shortly after leaving he had a tummy ache.)The only thing that tasted fresh and hot was the rice.
Here are some good parts, like I said before, the waitress was really nice. She did bring us pitchers of drinks and that was incredibly thoughtful. Also after i mentioned I'm allergic to shrimp, she made absolutely sure that I had no shellfish in my dish. Thank you for that. My husband had a little bowl of curry soup/stew and he really liked it.
Overall, not worth going back. On...
