11.2.24: We drove 35 minutes to town after hearing that some live reggae music was being played by a local artist, Byrd (his band is called, Agape), and to grab a bite to eat.
The Surf Shack had a vibe and great surf decor to match. They offer and serve domestic beer as well as some craft beers. They even have White Claws for non-beer drinkers. Of course, they have the usual soda fountain for non-alcoholic beverages. I went with a craft Elysian, which complimented well with my burger.
As for the menu, it's not super extensive and they offer a variety of burgers, a philly, a chicken sando, and a non-meat black bean veggietarian alternative. As for sides, the have the basics: regular/sweet potato fries, tater tots, and onion rings. People with kids, they have a kids menu available!
I ordered a single Longboard burger with a side of sweet potato fries and tater tots. Although the burger wasn't huge, it was actually tasty and hit the spot. It was a plus that the bacon wasn't flabby! The live music was awesome and it sounded really great in the building, no echo nor static feedback. If you ever get the chance to see Byrd or his band, Agape, play I suggest you do so. You won't be disappointed!
Now, I only gave the Shack 4 stars because on the menu they offer soft serve and shakes, but they were out. I'm a sucker for dessert and bummed I dids and tots had a great fry and the thousand island like dip was good.

Read moreIt's fine-good even. We stopped here for lunch based solely on the reviewer claiming their daughter asserts the food is better than In-N-Out. Such a bold claim required vetting.
I can say with all manner of confidence that that their daughter was/is either high or was/is suffering from head trauma. The food from this place, while perfectly edible and leagues above BK/McD's, it's not even on the same plane as In-N-Out or even Five Guys for that matter. To that reviewer, I hope you were able to get your daughter the help she clearly needed/needs.
In all other respects, the staff, cleanliness, speed of service, and the like were all positive.
That said, given the vast options for dining, nothing about the experience here is compelling enough to revisit over...
