I normally have great experiences at Papa Z's but today was not one of them. My wife wanted prime rib and they had a special for it. Ordered online which was super easy and fast for a Friday night and chose medium rare for the meat temperature. When I got home I was surprised that the prime rib was well done. I normally would just chalk it up to a bad or end cut but this was clearly a middle cut. I called in to let them know of the issue and spoke with the woman who helped me check out earlier. She was extremely rude and told me that I will never get a rare or medium rare from them as they cook their prime rib to a medium and then microwave it as orders come in. I asked why even offer those temperatures as an option or reheat it in the oven rather than the microwave and was told that I couldn't expect a fresh prime rib whenever I wanted. My next question was well if this isn't fresh, then when is it from? This question apparently set off the woman helping me as I couldnt get a word in for the next few minutes as I listened to why the fact that I wanted a medium-rare prime rib was out of the question and ridiculous. I was then offered either a cold piece of meat from their fridge that I could then heat up however I wanted or take a refund. I chose the refund and was met with "good because I don't think you'll be happy".
On top of this, my normal order of Fettuccine Alfredo with Shrimp, Scallops, and mushrooms was extremely bland and overcooked. Honestly all of this would have still been met with 2-3 stars and just chocked up to a bad night but the response that I got was just unacceptable and forced my hand. I genuinely hope Papa Z's takes this as an opportunity to do better and take off prime rib from the menu if they...
Read moreMe and my wife are local to the area. We had family visiting from afar and decided to grab dinner at Papa Z's. I understand how things can be misscommunicated however when it comes to safety there is no excuse. I expressed concern with the waitress reaching hot food over our infant son and asked politely for her to use an alternate route to deliver the food to our table. She decided to either disregard my concern or didn't understand the danger that that poses to a new born. We had ordered a cheese burger for my other son where I had asked that it only had cheese and burger no other toppings. This did not come to our table until it was requested btw and when it did it was cold and did not come with fries as our table thought we had asked. We asked another waitress if the cheeseburger came with fries she then looked at our plate and said "nope" and walked away not "let me check" or "would you like some?" At this point our whole experience was kind of subpar my father's pasta was cold and unedible my wifes taco salad was essentially a bag of tortilla chips. When the bill came out we had questions on the price of my sons burger. Which then turned into a discussion of who said what and ultimately I should of just asked for fries. Looking at the menu now I see that a low quality cold cheeseburger with nothing on it is infact 9.50 cents before tax. This however just raises more questions as to why we would ever want to go back. Places like this truly make you question why you would ever go out knowing how expensive it is and how you can expect...
Read moreI've lived in Connecticut my whole life, and I can say without a doubt that Papa Z's in Colchester has some of the best pizza this state has to offer. The food is consistently amazing, and you can tell they use high-quality ingredients in everything they make.
But let's talk about the real stars of the show: the specialty pizzas. The Baked Potato Pizza is an absolute game-changer! It's creamy, savory, and loaded with all the best parts of a baked potato on a delicious crust. It sounds wild, but trust me, you have to try it. I also can't get enough of the Philly Cheese Pizza—it's the perfect blend of steak, peppers, onions, and cheesy goodness. They absolutely nail the flavor.
What truly makes this place special, though, is the staff. Every time I go in, I'm greeted with a warm smile. They are so genuinely caring and friendly, and it makes the whole experience that much better. You can tell they love what they do. If you're anywhere near Colchester, you owe it to yourself to stop by Papa Z's. You won't be...
