We go thru Coleman a lot but usually don't stop to eat due to time of day. But today, a Sunday, we were coming back from a High School Reunion and stopped for lunch at The Cattle Drive Cafe. If you've never eaten here, this a Must stop!! I Promise you will not be disappointed.

Greeted and seated by very friendly staff as soon as we walked thru the door. Very nice country decor, friendly staff, and the food was out to the table quickly.

Menu selections are awsome and portions are generous. We had KC Steak, medium rare. I had the homemade onion rings which were awsome! My wife had the loaded baked potato which was huge and good. I can say this was the best steak I've eaten in a long time! Aged, Certified Black Angus beef. The steak was seasoned, tender and full of juice. Not a piece of meat that leaves a plate full fat behind. This steak was full of flavor and juice with no hanging fat. Every bite melts in your mouth, not chewy meat at all.

Desert...I had the Homemade Peach Cobbler topped with ice cream. I could tell on the first bite this was backed in cast iron, SO GOOD! My wife had The Baby Chocolate Deluxe Cake topped with ice cream and chocolate drizzle . This was so good too. We tasted a hint of bourbon in the cake which took it to a higher level.

If you are near Coleman, Texas, you must eat at the Cattle Drive Cafe. Don't be scared to drive a litte out of the way!

Five...

Restaurant staff is not informed or understand the laws regarding service dogs. My wife and I were seated, the waitress came over and immediately asked for proof that my dog was a service dog. My dog wears a vest and is clearly marked as a service dog. I informed her that she was in violation of the ADA LAW, she responded that her manager told her to ask for proof. I asked her to speak to the manager, after waiting 5 minutes I walked to the entrance to the bar and motioned him to come speak with me. While speaking to me it was revealed that he did not know the ADA LAW and had no training in regards to laws in regards to service animals. I informed him that he and his waitress had violated federal law pertaining to the ADA and service dogs. His response was he guessed they need to do some training in that area. This is no way to treat a disabled person let alone a disabled veteran that served his country for 34yrs. If you don't train your imployees in the laws they need to follow then you have no right to be in business or own a business. This incident happened on 1/27/2024 at around 2pm. I would not recommend this establishment they clearly have a lack of respect for disabled people and...

We arrived at 5:45pm on a Thursday. We ordered the small onion rings for appetizer. Good as always with very light batter, but could have been a little bit browner/crisper. Ordered the KC steak for 2, cooked "Pittsburg" (blue-rare; charred on the outside & RARE on the inside). Steak arrived cooked to perfection, AND it was very tender, like ribeye-tender. Very impressed with the sirloin & the cooking of it! We both got side salads, fresh and crispy, and the grape tomatoes were sweet & cold. He got loaded baked potato for his side dish & I ordered the beans simply because I have not had their beans before. Baked potato was good & loaded (butter, sour cream, bacon, cheddar), freshly baked & NOT sad from sitting in the oven for hours. Beans were similar to Ranch-style beans; they had good flavor, just not what I was expecting. Overall, it was an excellent meal. Service was friendly & attentive without being overly so. We ordered a bottle of Unchained Red Blend but did not finish it. They gave us the rest of the bottle sealed in a plastic travel bag so we could take it home legally. We...

Happened upon this little gem on the way home from a family trip. Gave it a chance and, boy, am I glad we did!! The food was excellent & abundant - our eyes nearly popped when the little waitress slowly made her way to us laden with plates, trays, bowls & cups. Hubbie had the special of the day: Hamburger Steak, green beans & a huge ol' baked tater (loaded, of course). And I had, cholesterol not withstanding, Fried Catfish & fries...with a bang-up homemade "tatar sauce" with a piquant aftertaste of, um...I dunno...horseradish?? And, y'all, this was decidedly worth it. So good!!! DH said, "Oooo boy!! That's almost worth a trip to Coleman (a town about 5 hrs from home), ain't it??!" 😁 Price was right: about $25 for 2 meals and 2 Sweet Teas. And, believe me, I packed out enough remaining food to have plenty for dinner tomorrow, too. So give this place a try. You will NOT be disappointed!!

We are tourists from Germany, and when asking for recommendations at a gas station, we were told to visit the Cattle Drive Cafe & Bull Bar. We were driving from Houston, Texas, to Colorado Springs, and this stop turned out to be the culinary highlight of our trip! The atmosphere was fantastic, the people were incredibly friendly, and the food was absolutely delicious. Hard to believe in a town that at first glance seemed a bit quiet, but the restaurant was bustling with guests. My wife, our child, and I were all thoroughly satisfied - we haven’t experienced anything quite like it anywhere else. We will definitely make a stop here again on our next trip. As a German, my child did miss having the typical apple juice mixed with sparkling water (like we often have back home), but we came here for an authentic American dining experience - and that’s exactly what we got!

Ok, revised review. The review below was 2 years old. May be new ownership..... opened a bar area, and expanded the restaurant. We had loaded nachos and a chicken fried steak. Both were a large portions and tasted very good. Now they get 5 stars. Wait and bar staff were very attentive. Altogether a much better experience today. Now at about 6pm some local music is about to start. The food at the other tables look good. My wife and I were seated in the center section. We waited about 20 minutes with several wait staff passing us by. Never offered anything to drink or spoke to at all. Yes, food looks good from afar. I know this because a customer who came in after us, sat next to us, was served a drink and salad. May try it again later, we would like to support local businesses. Wait staff needs guidance.
