We made reservations in advance last night for 7 pm as we chose to celebrate my friends birthday at your restaurant. Being that the weather was beautiful and we wanted outdoor seating I thought it would be the perfect setting instead of going to South Haven. It was a terrible and an embarrassing experience since she drove in to visit from Chicago. The drinks were weak, the food was overpriced, and it probably was the worst service I have literally ever experienced. I, being a former waitress when I was young, gave our server the benefit of doubt but it just kept getting worse as the night went on. We came from Van Auken Lake where our summer home is located and our neighbors who live here all year long joined us as well. They had never been to your restaurant and one of them is a professional chef. When we arrived, the elderly woman who was managing the table arrangements did not know where our table was and we waited to be seated until one of the servers found our name on a table already prepared and set up. The woman who took our reservations over the phone was very friendly. That is where my one star comes into play. We got our waters right away from someone that was not our server. Then, the drinks took a VERY long time and we had no bread until after the drinks arrived. I told our server our party of 5 was hungry and she may as well bring more bread when she came back and her response was, “I will bring more bread when your basket is empty” in a not so nice tone. She didn’t take our menus when she was finished and our small picnic table was a little crowded. The spinach and artichoke dip was delicious!! (Maybe that added to my one star). Nevertheless, when our food finally came out she spilled hot butter and oil all over our nieghbors long sleeve shirt, and down her pant leg from the scallops she ordered. The server said, “sorry” and seemed to dismiss it. I’m not talking just a little dribble, it was pouring off the plate into her lap, and she never offered to bring more napkins or a wet towel to clean up the mess much less get the manager to compensate anything. She also had to wait a long time for the dressing that was missing from the wedge salad she ordered when it was served. Three out of 5 of us had the medallions which tasted delicious but the serving was small for $26. However, my husband ordered the $24 Ribeye medium rare that had no flavor. It was just as if they slapped it in the grill and turned it once. I don’t mind paying Chicago prices but it has to be worth it. My birthday girl had to ask for the drink menu again twice wanting a second martini and when it got to the table half of it was missing as she spilled it while serving that as well. After dinner we pretty much bussed the table ourselves because no one came to clear our plates. When it was time to order dessert they were out of the key lime pie the birthday girl wanted. Understandable and no big deal. She said the carrot cake she had instead was delicious. When I asked the waitress to ask the manager to take my nieghbors dessert off the bill (to compensate for the spills and awful service)she looked at me and said, “Really?” I said, “Yes, really”. She said, “I will just pay for the dessert” and rolled her eyes. I didn’t want her to pay for it but I was embarrassed about the whole situation. I should have talked to the manager while I was there but clearly did not want to get the girl in trouble because I was once in her shoes. All in all most of the food was good but overpriced and we not my neighbors will be back. It’s a shame because the atmosphere was nice, especially with...
Read moreMenu was a bit pricy and the menu on the web site was not the one we were given. Prices had changed and not updated and there were not many choices.. but we ordered beef tip sandwich and fries and a half rack of ribs with a baked potato . My partners meal came out a full ten minutes before my rib meal did and the waitress apologized.. He was half done before I got my meal. He said the sauce was good however it was topped with cheese which was not on the menu and he did not like cheese. He pealed it off. My meal finally arrived.. And although it looked pretty the potato was not a fluffy good baked potato. It was obviously cooked hours before and reheated resulting in a hard old potato. Same with the ribs... Not tender or fresh...chewy and obviously reheated then covered in sauce to hide the fact. It didn't help. Asparagus was on the side which I detest...I was not offered another option and it was tough and stringy according to my partner who attempted to eat it. I asked for a bread basket and was told they didn't do that. We were there for a 14 year anniversary and tried to save the night with a dessert. Only two choices were bread pudding and a chocolate lava cake with ice cream. We chose the lava cake which arrived drowning in syrup with a tiny scoop of ice cream on top. It was ok... Most likely because it was not made there .just heated and served. Don't know if we came on just a bad day or what.... There were only two other people there when we arrived. Our waitress was fine and they were friendly But the meal was so disappointing and at $70 it was a huge let down. This was our first trip here and last.....sad to say as we live close and hoped to find a decent place with Good food to celebrate our...
Read moreWere do I start. Read reviews even though they were bad. Figure we would give it a chance. Went all the way back to a sure thing paw paw brewery we were going to go before we came here! Should have walked out when we walked in. Did not know we had to go down a full flight of stairs. Ok walked into the restaurant no one I mean no one.oh wait! Except the employee sleeping across three chairs. As he got up he laughed about it!! So we did sit down very very outdated. Beautiful scenery of lake. This place could be soooo beautiful but it was not. We actually ordered a drink which they were on glasses a little foggy but! We sat for about 1/2 hour and decided we were not going to order. Who knows how long the food was sitting..My daughter started laughing ok you may think I made this up! But! I did not. The same employee that was sleeping on the chairs. Was now sitting in dining room putting on his shoes and socks. Has to be family per my daughter's comment. On the way out I did catch the waitress and told her we would have ordered food if (1) Employee was not sleeping on chairs (2) Employee was not putting on his shoes and socks in dining room (3) There were more customers. Due to the food which may have been sitting for a longer time. The menu which we looked at on our 45minute on our way over looked really interesting. I felt sorry for the waitress! Which I did tell her why we left. Because we are great tippers. Sorry you lost out. We will NOT be back. The employee was the turning point. Turned us right or the door!!! I WOULD CALL GORDON RAMSEY! This place again has a lot of potential....
