Dockside Restaurant & Tiki Bar — Restaurant in Colonial Beach

We don't always plan on going out and aren't always ready to take pictures. Such is the case here. Last minute, guidebook recommendation and a hankering for a coastal noshe. Enter the restaurant and tiki bar. It's off season, thankfully and the large eating space was almost empty. Only two of the three bars were open for eating and, opting for out side we enjoyed great service, friendly staff, convivial fellow travelers and I lucked into a delicacy that...a been a favorite since high school but that's more miss than hit. Crab stuffed mushrooms are a decadent proposition when done properly. Unfortunately, it's hard to find them done with the proper attention to detail. Dockside restaurant and Tiki bar is your place. And I'm sure, from the happy faces of my fellow fressers that .the burgers are also of great merit. I received three racquet ball sized mushroom caps filled with a delightful blend of fresh crab meat and spices, in a sauce that might cause escargot to jump ship. I was merely there for an appetizer and a beer and almost stayed for a full dinner. Depending on the season and the night, you'll either slide right in or enjoy the atmosphere while you wait. Went last Saturday night for a date night with my Fiance. When we approached a gentleman asked us where we wanted to go, inside or outside. Inside was at the limit. We understood that, no problem. He mentioned grabbing an outside table, order a drink, then get a menu and go to the bar to order our food. Simple enough. Well we waited at the bar for 25 mins while all the " regulars" got their drinks, yes we could tell by them being called by their names. After getting our drinks we found a table. Asked for menus and decided what we would like to eat. My fiance approached the bar, to wait another 25 mins or more. When he said he wanted to order our food, another gentleman said they were not taking orders. As we sat there at a table we watched others walk up, order, and received their orders. Not a good first impression for my fiance and I. We will never return. We were paying customers just as their "regulars " and were not teated fairly. Poor judgment on their part. As we were looking for a new place in the area to dine and start bringing our family and friends to. Loss of our business I know won't hurt them but hopefully they will check into this and make minor adjustments so other new folks aren't...

It was a beautiful afternoon. Food was great! For price ,could have been brought to you. Atmosphere great! Food was great! Bartenders/ order/taker. Great! What wasn't Great. We waited til people moved and seemed to be a shift in crowd. Took our grandkids to the little sky swings that were there. No one was there by then. I chaperone them they weren't alone. 3 & 4 years old. We hadn't been out for a very long time. The person that was with me hadn't been well and is not expected to be well. If you can imagine what, I'm saying here. I work hard for my money and am a business owner myself in fredericksburg. I dropped 130.00 on two kids chicken dinners. Two shrimp dinners, and four drinks,& 20 percent tip, kinda ruined the vibe for me. When I was asked for me and my grandchildren to leave the swings. Kids not allowed. When I looked up kid friendly in colonial beach. Lady, you rained on a precious memory. Im not saying I'll never come back, but let's just say it'll be High Tides next time. Grew up at the beach too, hadn't been there in years. So I'd like to make a correction , they aren't kid...
