The Beach Bar is one of Irish Hills' best examples of why Michigan's Irish Hills is a gem. On the surface, it's a well maintained family style restaurant that specializes in pizza. Right below the surface, it's a true center if gravity for a friendly community. Carefully look around, and you'll notice unique and fun art created by local artists. Look at the walls, and you'll see staff photos from years gone by. Check out the trophy shelves, and you'll see a celebration of multiple generations of friends, family, and neighbors. The food is always reliable. On a cool fall ir winter day, I always recommend you start with their tomato bisque. I haven't had a better tomato soup in Michigan.this is real comfort food. Chicken pesto pizza! The place is w few miles away from the MIS, so if uour looking for a place to meet friends before or after on race day, this is a good place to duck into and avoid traffic. Check out the website to learn if you'll be there when they have a live band or if you're truly lucky, you'll witness the world famous hermit crab races. Super fun for the family (and you may find your child taking home a hermit crab). Just an A+ place in my book.

My family has been coming here for over 35 years...this was our favorite place to go to with family from out of town until tonight! After waiting for over an hour, with two kids under the age of 7, for our three pizzas to be served (which was just after 9:00pm...way after the busy rush time for food), the waitress asked if we'd like ANOTHER beer, to which my mother-in-law responded with, "We are really hungry. When do you think our pizzas will be ready?" She said, "Let me go check." Then, the manager came to our table and said, "So, I hear you have some concerns about the pizzas you ordered," and continued by showing us the worst customer service I have ever experienced! She questioned when we made the order, asked us if we ordered right away when we sat down, NEVER apologized for the restaurant, clarified that it takes 25-30 minutes to make a pizza even after we said we put the order in an hour ago, belittled us, and defended her staff when her own waitress forgot to put the order in! Ridiculous! Then, she concluded her statement with, "Well, we can comp ONE pizza but they should be out shortly." 20 minutes later...three pizzas. I have never seen such horrible customer service from a manager in my life! Let's just say, we told the kids this was their last time at The Beach Bar! It's a shame that one person's incompetence of showing basic customer service has forever changed the experiences of such an incredible...

The only good thing was the service. Otherwise, I was beyond disappointed in the "just because of covid" reduced menu. Beach Bar already has a small, specialized menu, so to cut it down to 1 page (front and back) while taking away signature sandwiches and dishes was a slap in the face. Only 5 sandwiches and 3 wraps were available. The rest was limited to 7 salads, a few starters, or pizza (which we ended up getting and was greasy, floppy, and wholly sub-par). I had family come from out of town soley for the tuna croissant and the turkey cranberry sandwich, 2 of the restaurant's most beloved sandwiches, neither of which was available. The cuts to the menu seemed nothing short of arbitrary and were reminiscent of the baseless restrictions of the second MI stay-at-home order: there was no rhyme or reason to as to what stayed and what went. Needless to say that will be the last time I attend my (now former) favorite restaurant for quite some time. Such a...
