So, let me tell you all about Belly, the restaurant I stumbled upon during one of my mailman adventures. Now, as a mailman, I'm always on the lookout for a place to refuel after a long day of delivering letters and packages. And boy, did Belly hit the spot!
Let's parcel out some praise for their mushroom lasagna. The moment I took a bite, I knew it was 'signed, sealed, delivered' to my favorites list. The flavors had the richness of a well-stamped envelope, the mushrooms were cooked to 'priority mail' perfection, and the layers were stacked as neatly as letters in a mailbox. It's like a warm hug with a 'handle with care' sticker on a plate. As a mailman, I know a thing or two about special deliveries, and this lasagna? It's got 'postmaster approved' written all over it!
But let's not forget about the cocktails at Belly. Oh boy, they are first-class! As a mailman, I usually stick to the 'postage' paid water, but when I do splurge on a fancy drink, I want it to be unique and delicious. And Belly's cocktail menu? It's like receiving a surprise package filled with flavor! Every cocktail is crafted with the precision of a mailman sorting the day's mail—each one a special delivery of taste. The mixologist must be a former mailman because he knows exactly how to address my thirst and send my taste buds on an express journey to Happy Town. Cheers to that!
Oh, here's the special delivery on the gossip express! Every time I drop by Belly, I've got to 'address' the fact that their bartender, Greg, is not just easy on the eyes but seems to have a 'tracking number' on every bottle of Fernet Branca. I'm just a mailman, not a private eye, but my 'postal' instincts tell me he's the biggest Fernet aficionado around. But hey, I'm not here to 'sort' through that—as long as he keeps mixing those cocktails like a pro, I'm all smiles and stamps of approval.
In conclusion, Belly is the perfect spot for a mailman like me to unwind and treat myself after a hard day's work. The mushroom lasagna is a must-try, and the cocktails will take your taste buds on a wild ride. And if you happen to see Greg, the Fernet Branca enthusiast, tell him the mailman sent you. He'll know what it means. Enjoy your visit to...
Read moreI'll preface by saying that I was a big fan of the restaurant that was previously at this location. I'd been going there multiple times a month (or week) for well over a decade. I'm also a big fan of the new proprietors other restaurant, Beetbox, that's near downtown Columbia. It's arguably, the #1 restaurant and caterer (Peachtree Catering) in town. I welcome debate from anyone that says otherwise.
When I heard that Ben and Amanda we're going to take the torch I had no doubts that only good things were to come to this southside mainstay of mine. There was no doubt that they'd pay homage to Columbia Catering Hall of Famers, Hoss and Trish, while introducing their own style in all the best ways.
I used to rarely check the Hoss's daily menu because it was rinse and repeat predictable. I think that's something many of us loved about it. However, I can't wait to get the daily email from Belly to see what's new. It's only getting better with time.
All my go to Hoss's favorites have been kept (Cobb salad, Big Hoss, burger, wings) and in some ways made even better without making them different. A fine line that's hard to get right. The breads are fresher and there's a lot more local meats and produce being used. The sweets are now made from scratch (I see you) and the soups are actually different most days. The best part is that the bathrooms are 1,000,000 times cleaner!! I know I'm not the only one that noticed.
I did sleep on that chicken sandwich special the other day and my mind has not stopped thinking about it since. I know it was delicious. It won't...
Read moreI have been so anxious to come back here as we had one of the best salads here last year. Today i ordered a sandwich and a cup of coffee, asked for decaf the young lady at the register said they didn’t have decaf, i said that’s ok i will have regular, she pointed at the other end of the counter and said “ there is the coffee you can get some, looked around for cream or milk, nothing. Asked the young lady, she said she didn’t know if they had any instead of saying “ let me see if i could get you some.” . I asked her to please ask some one because i like to have some, she went to the back and by the time she came back i took a sip of my regular coffee it was lukewarm. So i said “ thank you i don’t want the lukewarm coffee “, asked how much was the coffee, again she said “ I don’t know “, I grabbed a bag of chips and said lets just swap the coffee for this, i asked how much is the bag of chips? Again, she didn’t know. The guy who was making my sandwich asked if i wanted it for here or to go, i said to go. My sandwich was placed in a metal tray for here, i was very frustrated at this point and didn’t even remind him that it was suppose to be “ togo”. No napkins and I tipped 20% for this lousy service. This...
