I read a lot of good reviews about this place, so I drove 25 miles to try it out today. The parking lot was full, so I waited a couple of minutes for a spot to park. The place was full, but it only took a few minutes to be seated. When I went to the buffet, there were no dinner plates available, so I asked an employee if they could bring some. The plates were rather small, but I figured I could come back through again, so I filled my plate and sat down to eat. The food was just OK, nothing to write home about. The potatoes were instant and runny, no gravy, the fish was not very warm, and I couldn't find any tarter sauce. I decided that I would try another dish with something else as like I said the plates were somewhat small and didn't hold very much. I went back to the buffet bar and selected a pork chop this time and some other veggies. When I returned to my table, it had already been bused and everything, but my bill was gone. I asked the waiter for some more silverware and another drink. He took my bill with him and returned with the drink and silverware along with my bill. I looked at my bill, and it said ONE TRIP BUFFET. Well, it would have been nice if someone had explained that before I ordered the buffet. So, I paid my...
Read moreI stopped in the parking lot during the return leg of a trip three hours deep into Kentucky. They had a bright sign, but looked closed, which us what I needed.
After the three hours of driving, I turned around and headed for Tennessee. Not sure how long I drove, but it was evening rush hour in places, I was exhausted. I needed to get out of the truck.
So, I grabbed my truck fixing book and flashlight, and climbed up on my engine to look at things (it is a superduty ford, even being 6' 5", I have to climb up on it.).
Every person (employee, maybe even the owner), as they separately left for home, stopped to ask if I needed help. It looked like I did, but I was just shaking off the fatigue.
If they care enough to help a greasy old man climbing on his truck in the parking lot, I should at least return the kindness.
Next week, when I have to make the trip again, I will be sure to stop by when they are open and enjoy some of Betty's...
Read moreHaving lived in Columbia most of my life. I've eaten with my family at Betty's for years. Last time we were there for buffet take out. When we went to check out, the cashier opened our containers to see what we got. This astonished me, especially in light of Covid, that she handled our food this way. Not to mention the containers are meant to keep your food warm until you get home. I asked her what she was doing, and she was counting to make sure we didn't take too many vegetables!!!! She told me I had taken 4 instead of the allowed 3. I asked her what difference it made if I took 4 small portions of vegetables instead of 3 huge portions? Makes O sense, especially when I hadn't even taken any of the "free" sides that they don't count, like rolls, hush puppies, and cornbread. Someone in management needs to tell Annette to lay off before they lose...
