Sightseeing near Comfort, and pulled in to get some lunch. A bit off the beaten path, but the website (and 4.8 Google score) looked like it would be worth the effort. A beautifully designed, charming little restaurant in a nice setting. Atmosphere is an A+. The process of getting seated with only about 10% of the seats filled was slow. The staff appeared distracted and confused. After getting seated, I quickly noticed the pizza oven. I'm a sucker for good brick/wood fired pizza! I ordered simple. A house pizza (Maximus) plus 2 extra ingredients (that didn't include onion). My wife ordered the lasagna. Red flag with the staff again as we look and see 4-5 people dancing near the register, as if they're on spring break. The pizza came out, and 1 of 2 extra ingredients was missing and replaced by white onion. While telling the waitress it wasn't a big deal, and I'd just pick the onions off, she made a point to show me the ticket to prove she wrote down what I said, then yelled to the kitchen that they made the mistake. No apology, just a bit more odd behavior. The meal... I prefer a little rigidity in the undercarriage of my wood or brick fired pizza. This wasn't that. The crust had some char, so that was fine. It was just really soft and flimsy. I'd still score it well, if the flavors are there. Cutting to the chase, they weren't. There was nothing special with the toppings. Just bland, to a fault. Maybe because the toppings were so scant? And zero pull to the cheese. It was just odd. When paying $30 for a pizza, I expect more. A lot more. My wife said the same with her lasagna. Bland, aside from an overpowering taste of garlic. And very oily. I had a bite and agree 100%. Well, a pretty massive disappointment, to be honest. The only thing that saves this from a 2 star review, is the ambiance. On the plus side, I did get an apology from the waitress on the pizza as we...
Read moreThe views and atmosphere are great. Looking out over the Texas Hill country is incredible. There was live music playing which was nice as well.
The service was not bad, it just was not great. The young lady waiting on us was very friendly, but never really took a drink order, and when asked for other things would take way to long and by the time she got back the food was kind of cold.
The food was fresh and good, but was not great. I got a custom pizza that was really good. It wasn’t life changing, but I would drive back for it! The ingredients were fresh, the meat and vegetable toppings were good, the sauce and cheese good, and the crust were nice.
My wife ordered pasta with Alfredo sauce and grilled chicken. The Alfredo tasted like it was nothing but cream and was very bland. The chicken was good but nothing spectacular. The pasta flavor and texture were good but was overshadowed by the blandness of the sauce. My wife asked for parmesan and salt and pepper, and by the time it was arrived the dish was cold. I gave the food four stars because a 3 was too low and rounded up from a 3.5 stars.
There were two huge downsides . there were flies EVERYWHERE. I was battling several flies throughout dinner and when dinner came, it got even worse.
This place is set up for a long lingering dinner, but the seating is horribly uncomfortable. It is so frustrating to me when a place wants you to sit snd enjoy a meal and drink wine, but gives you uncomfortable chairs to sit in. If you want someone to stay for an extended meal…get comfortable seating.
All in all, i enjoyed it. However the wait service, fly situation, and chairs need to...
Read moreWe hosted a rehearsal dinner at La Calabria in April of 2025. My son had requested a relaxing atmosphere where our families and friends could freely mingle and visit with one another. Cole made the planning process and our evening perfect!
The venue is ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS!!! I provided minimal decorations because the environment is perfect on it's own. Everything was set up when we arrived and the evening progressed perfectly.
Cole set up a beautiful and delicious buffet of salad, pizza, dessert and drinks. Everything was labeled including ingredients. Cole prompltly refilled anything that was running low. He also accomodated the mother of the bride's gluten allergy by providing her with her very own pizza. He checked in with me multiple times throughout the night to make sure everything was going as I had envisioned.
The new deck that is included when you reserve the space for an event was perfect for mingling. A musician played guitar and sang throughout our dinner and was a wonderful addition and helped to set the mood. Our party consisted of around 50 guests and the space accomodated us perfectly. Being able to walk around the property to enjoy the many breathtaking views and sunset was a plus.
My husband and I had already visited La Calabria at Riven Rock Ranch many times before booking our event. We love coming to such a beautiful place to enjoy a wonderful meal. The staff are always so friendly and accomodating. They've even provided blankets for us when the weather was chilly.
I can't recommend La Calabria enough. Go visit in person so you can get a feel for the exceptional views, hospitality and...
