Thomahawk Deli & Grill — Restaurant in Conemaugh Township

We “stumbled” upon this place on our way back from Johnstown airport (thanks Google maps!!) and we’re happy we gave it a try! We weren’t sure how to proceed when we first came in as you have to order at the counter, pay, pick up your silverware and drinks and then sit down! We got the specials (pizza burger for my husband and chicken/berries/walnut/feta salad for myself) and they were delicious! My husband ordered the freshly cut chips and really enjoyed them!! My mother ordered the NY cheesecake and wasn’t disappointed! The chicken on my salad was really tasty and I loved the candied walnuts!! It is a shame that sanitation and health guidelines are not followed at this deli. The owner and Assistant Manager are to be commended on their food offerings. Unfortunately, on four occasions, I had to request that masks be worn or pulled up by the employees. Furthermore, it was disconcerting to see one employee leave his lengthy beard uncovered while prepping food. Again, I witnessed this on all four visits. Tonight, I requested that the woman making my pizza wear a mask though her long pony tail was bouncing around the food prep area. My request for her to wear a mask was ignored. Breakfast was the worst I ever had. Pancakes still doughy in center..over easy eggs hard cooked bacon way under done, and never told hashbrowns come with pepper & onions. No one told me that syrup was at counter and I would have to use before leaving..and no silverware was supplied...then when I called to complain...the woman argued with me..stating all her bacon was fully cooked, but never stated that there was problems with the rest of the order......all I wanted was a good breakfast...yuk !!
