Well worth driving out of our way for this gem of a cafe! We had the special green matcha rose latte with oat milk, a cherry danish, the blueberry stuffed pancakes, and 'the all in' sandwich served on rye bread. The sandwich was divine, though would have been wonderful with some extra sauce. The danish was just as we expected it to taste. I requested it be toasted rather than warmed elsewhere. That made a worldly difference in texture appeal, to compliment the taste. The blueberry pancakes were good. Nothing over the top for that. The plate could have used some dressing up for serving the rolled up pancakes. Maybe a poof of whip cream on each side if the customer only orders the pancakes and no side. The latte was delicious, but too sweet. The sweetness did take away from the name of the drink. For it to be green matcha primarily, I would have adored more of that with hints of the other flavors for that specific signature drink.
The staff was polite, well mannered, and had good energy. 👍🏼 💫
The atmosphere was quaint, with some nice plants as decor, along with a micro gift/merchandise section. The seating area was a little too crammed for our liking, but for many cafés we have found this to be somewhat common depending on what appeal the business is going for. It's simply nice to be able to hear yourself think and connect with the people you arrive to eat with. It was crowed for brunch on a Monday, which we were happy to see for The Hive, nonetheless! It's clear the locals come often, which makes this a special spot. There is a nice couch/coffee table set up, which is where we chose to eat for the extra space. In addition, there is outdoor seating available for nicer weather days under an attached pavilion style picnic area.
All-in-all, it was worth our spontaneous stop, and we will absolutely be back! Many thanks to the staff and owners who are doing a wonderful job! We wish you well for years to...
Read moreWe were so excited to eat here. We really enjoyed the pictures and reviews. We had a party of 6 for "brunch" on a Saturday for a bridal shopping party. I contacted The Hive from their website and explained that we had time in between dress appointments. Asked if I could make a reservation, and Tabaitha emailed back and said yes. We called on Saturday to let them know we were going to be 10 minutes late (lights cycle in York) and were told ok. We arrived and the place was great, the menu looked amazing. We were all so hungry. We began placing our order, and some short man (employee) interrupted our order placing and stated very loudly (so the whole restaurant could hear) "WE DON'T TAKE RESERVATIONS" and walked away. That was embarrassing for everyone. We all just looked at one another with our mouths open. It was hard to enjoy the food and mood after that snarky remark. We did like the food however the lack of self-control and professionalism by that short man ruined the idea of wanting to eat there again. If your establishment doesn't take reservations, it would have been more professional to wait until we were finished eating and say, "We hoped you enjoyed your time but under normal circumstances, we do not take reservations". Rather than interrupting rather loudly while we were ordering. And it might be a good idea to let all your employees know...
Read moreWent there for the first time today and we will definitely be back! The team behind the counter was super friendly and made some great recommendations. My husband had the bees knees and bbq mac n cheese, I had the club and the chicken coconut curry soup. Hubby said the mac and cheese itself was pretty standard mac and cheese but that's the only thing that was average--everything else was incredibly fresh and delicious! The bread was thick-sliced and so fresh, the sandwiches had the perfect proportions of meat and dressing and veggies, and the soup was full of chicken and just the right amount of spicy. The service was quick too. We sat outside on the patio which was lovely. But the inside is awesome too, the design has this farmhouse/industrial vibe that's homey and chic at the same time. There are tables, a counter by the bar area, a counter at the window, and a corner with chairs and a couch. It's got all the creature comforts we're all used to getting at Starbucks but with a down-home Dover feel and the food is a million times fresher. It's just what we needed here. I'm so glad they're in the neighborhood and I will definitely be a regular! Can't recommend...
