The Chicken Shack of Constantine — Restaurant in Constantine Township

We went for Valentine's day lunch and split a 2 piece fish dinner. It was absolutely excellent.. one dinner was totally enough for the both of us. We asked if they could cook the fries a little crispy and they accommodated us and the fries were absolutely perfection and no joke we're actually some of the best fries I've had in years. The fish fillets we're fried to absolute perfection they weren't greasy at all I mean not at all they were perfect. The level of the food was way higher caliber than the price. And they don't gouge you on drinks either a small drink is only a dollar49 n free refills so that's cool. I can't say enough good things about the fish or the fries just absolutely delicious. The cornbread was excellent as well wasn't too sweet and wasn't too crumbly and complimented everything else quite nicely. The onion rings we're just done a whole different level from onion rings that you'll have any place else. Basically you'd have to go to a pretty expensive place to get better onion rings than what we got served today because these things were just absolutely flame. Also back to the drinks they had the mix on the drinks was dialed in really nice they weren't chintzy on the syrup. The Coca-Cola tasted like good fountain Coke and the root beer tasted like good fountain root beer not thin and watered down. The house specialty tartare sauce was excellent. We went in not knowing what to expect because we know the owners changed hands recently. And I have to tell you we were really surprised and how excellent it was and we'll definitely be coming back on as regular basis as we can to help support what we think is an excellent local business. The staff was all super friendly and courteous and answered any questions that we had.. if I had any criticism at all I would say it would be to just give a little bit more french fries. Fries are relatively inexpensive and if they gave you even just a quarter as much more as they give you it would really seem like there was a lot more there was exactly enough but it would have been cool to have just a little more cuz they were really delicious.! The atmosphere is kind of like a weird modernish home I don't know how to describe it other than it's clean and comfortable of note is the cool steel chairs they have they're quite sturdy. It's right off the highway on 131 super easy to find totally try this place out you won't regret it the food...

Please read entire review! First impression is that of a dirty restaurant desperately in need of a complete remodel. If funds aren't available for that, a total scrubdown with a good degreaser followed by paint and some new cove base would be a great improvement! If this was adequately addressed this would have been a 5-star review! Why am I even talking about this? Because the food is great!!

Most popular for the fried fish and chicken. While you may think the fish has a fishy smell, the taste is not! Each piece is battered dipped and fried when you order! The filets are large so don't order too big unless you want leftovers. The batter is similar to a light beer batter and tastes great. The tartar sauce was fresh with good pickle flavor.

Fried chicken was good as well. Didn't detect any seasoning so if you're one who must have it, this may not be your favorite. Chicken also is cooked to order. I ordered a breast and flavor was good but it was fairly dry. Good breading that's light and crispy.

While waiting for my order, I saw 3 young adults working in the open cooking area. These people were working hard and fast and I had good service that was polite 😊

Yes, we will definitely come back for the great food, just hope they'll work on...

Good food, good service, good value. The fried chicken is quite good. I didn’t care for the fish as much, especially for the price. The Mac n cheese is pretty good. I really like the mashed potatoes and gravy, it has shredded chicken mixed in and the gravy is very good. I got the four piece meal, it comes with two sides and your choice of corn bread or biscuit. The corn bread is good. It’s a very filling meal and a value at about $13. I would recommend this place as long as you don’t go in expecting the old place. It stands on its own and it’s pretty good. They’ve redone the outside and added a patio. Not sure if the inside is updated. 6-11-24
