The location is a huge plus, they are close to Anna and Cobden so anyone who is visiting the Shawnee Hills wine trail area will find them to be convenient and also one of the few places open for Sunday dinner. At this point they close at 6 pm so be aware of that - it is listed on either their FB page or website (can't remember which). We went to the Blue Boar for Mother's Day evening. Our waitress Mckinzie (not sure of the spelling!) was great. She greeted us right away, got our drink orders, and explained the menu options and checked back on us appropriately. She was very friendly and professional. My husband had the catfish which he loved! The portions were generous and he said it was cooked just the way he liked it. In addition to the greens, the salad had tomatoes, cheese, and bacon and was plentiful. The red beans and rice are always a favorite but they were sold out so he had the smashed potatoes which he liked. I had the chicken fettuccini (I don't eat any spice but there was a blackened version available) and the salad. The servings were plentiful and we both brought leftovers home. Both the owner and the manager checked with us to see how our meals were and to thank us for coming in. We came late in the day so they were out of a few things but we are definitely going back and are looking forward to trying a few other options on the menu! (Sorry, we were really hungry so didn't think about...
Read moreDon’t waste time or money. First we waited for 15 minutes for someone to take our drink order after we were seated. Waited another 10 for those minus the bar order we had. That took an extra 15 minutes also came to the table watered down and tasted horrible. Then probably 30-40 minutes for food to get to our table. Appetizers came out same time as our food. Half my plate was cold the other half looked like it had set in the window for awhile. Asked for a box for my daughters chicken 4 times before we got it. When the check finally came there was a credit card processing fee already added to my bill in my total. Seeing as I planned to pay with cash had to ask them to take it off. They didn’t even have correct change so had to round it up to pay me my change due. I watched multiple employees ignore some tables then handed out complimentary drinks to others. Owners had nothing to say for the mess up with all our stuff but handed out free beers to the table behind me that got their food before us even though we had been there 20 minutes before them. All in all will never go back. Make sure to check your bills if you’re...
Read moreTook my wife for Valentine's day and the prime rib special that was advertised. Seated at 6:30 in a broken chair that snapped a rung as soon as I sat down. I was handed a dirty menu, and when I asked about the special, I was told they were out of prime rib. Almost left at that point, but stuck in there for the Del Monico steak for both of us. We were served our pre-made refrigerated salads. Waited for 1 hour and 15 minutes and was told they were just getting the vegetables in. That was it, after watching 4 tables that came in 5 to 20 minutes after we were seated get served, we were done. Ruined our Valentine's day dinner, after working a full day and a part-time gig, our only time for a nice meal, ruined with excuses, no special, and an absolute waste of almost an hour and a half when all was said and done. I will NOT return, no more chances. I would recommend people drive the 25 miles to Carbondale for some dinner, you could probably go, eat, and make it home before you even get served at the Blue Boar....
