Clay's Restaurant — Restaurant in Jersey Village

⭐️⭐️⭐️ I am a biggg foodie, and one thing I love is good crawfish! I came by to Clay's for the first time ever (even though I've lived here my whole life) and was excited for the $4.99/lb of crawfish!

When we got here, the young lady at the register was very nice, and quick to answer any questions I had! Loved the fact that she knew her stuff! Albeit, .99 cents for 2oz of Regular melted butter (not garlic), and .99 for the seasoning to be dusted on the crawfish was not my favorite thing, but I digress. My partner ordered the chicken fried chicken w/Mashed taters and FF, and i ordered 3 lbs of crawfish, a side of butter and a piece of corn, and 2 drinks. Spent $40.

We went to the patio area, since the temp felt nice, and the vibe was nice as families hung out together, the kids played, and what seemed like a great time! We sat down, and our "server"(?) came to the table and grabbed our ticket order... granted she did kinda yell at my partner for going to grab paper towels from another empty table since we didn't have any and the table was still wet from being wiped down. I don't think she meant any harm, Just kinda shocked the way she said "Hey you don't have to do that, I can bring you paper towels if you just ask me!", I was like "dang, that was a bit unnecessary, and embarrassing..", but again, I digress. She did have a bit of an attitude, but maybe it had just been a rough day, who knows? She came back with our food, which by the way, great time! Took em maybe 5-10 minutes to come out! His chicken fried steak was pretty good!! Crispy, good flavor, and the white gravy was great. The taters were nice, and the fries were crispy too! (Pro tip, you do have to get your own refills here! Did not know this till later!)

The crawfish however could use some love. Although the price was great and they looked 🤌🏼 so nice and presentable, it was a shame that it felt like the crawfish were still dirty. Felt like they grabbed the sack, dumped it into the boil, and called it a day. They had grass still, they were super dry, and the outside of them looked like they had dirt on them. Overall, the tails had decent spicy flavor, but they were reallllly dry. Don't expect garlic butter sauce, with cajun seasoning in a bag (this is what im used to). These are on a big dish, with potatoes and corn (a la carte) I did eat all the tails, but man, it felt like a waste with some of the heads and claws. 🥲

Overall, I'd give it a shot if it's your first time, and you wanna have a good time in a patio style restaurant with the family, and let the kids run around and play within sight. Don't expect the best service (or any after you get your food, lol), but expect some decent food and a great atmosphere. The crawfish aren't bad if you aren't worried about eating a couple blades of grass and some dirt here and there and like a dry rub, otherwise stick the just the tails and ask for for some butter!

Also, if you're wondering why I haven't mentioned the server again, it's because we never saw her again...

I visited Clays today with my best friend for the 3.99/lb crawfish. We got 10lbs and say down. A waitress came by to greet us, Princess was on her nametag. She said she would be our waitress and assured us that if we needed anything, to let her know. We got our crawfish (2 trays, 4 buckets) and started to eat. During this whole time, whole buckets were filling up with crawfish shells and by the time we were done with the 10lbs, the 4 buckets and two trays were full of shells. No one had come the whole time to check on us or anything. We decided to order 6 more lbs of Crawfish and had to chase down our waitress to do so because she had not once came to check on us. After asking about price discrepancy, because I ordered 6lbs so 5lbs should've been 3.99/lb and the 1lb should've been 4.99/lb. She charged all 6lbs at 4.99 because it was two ppl and she did 3 and 3 instead. I asked if she can fix that, and she said that I already paid for it so it's was too late. Wow. And when the 6lbs came out, the waitress (a different one. Small, long straight hair) stood there with the two trays just looking at me. I was confused and asked if she was going to put it on top of the previous trays because she didn't look like she was going to clear the table nor did she bring help to do so. She said, 'No. Just clear the table and make room!" I was taken back and started to put the buckets in the trays and she almost dropped the crawfish. And I guess I wasn't doing a good enough job of cleaning the table for her that she huffed and decided to put down the tray of Crawfish and actually clear the table herself. I feel this is uncalled for. She was so rude. We were never got waited on, our drinks never got refilled, (I know we can refill them ourselves) but no one came to ask if we needed anything or how was the food. Having to chase down someone to add an order, and asking a customer to do your job and clear a table for you is just ridiculous! Crazy thing is, this isn't the first time I've gotten rotten service here. I had chalked the other times up to other factors like the it's an off day for ppl or there just busy, etc. But this time, it really rubbed me the wrong way how we were treated. Please train the staff better. If I could give negative stars for this night's service, I definitely would. Their customer service leaves lots to be desired and I definitely didn't appreciate the bad attitude. I will say that I do enjoy most of the food served but I'm going to have to stop going here because I refuse to be treated this way over and over again. That probably doesn't matter much but nonetheless, I wanted to let someone know that...

PHYSICALLY ATTACKED BY MANAGEMENT!! I have gone here for several years since a child and when they had live animals next door and you could pet horses… I have brought my daughter since she was small and is now 13… Totally turned into a DUMP Service horrible! Nothing but teenagers… infested with flies, tvs don’t work, they try to double charge your bill when you leave! I went for my birthday with a party of 8. 7 months pregnant trying to celebrate my birthday with 5 kids 3 adults… We were neglected the whole time while buying 20 lbs or crawfish 3 kids meals my husband and sister in law cocktails… bill coming to well over $200.00. So disappointed in service and atmosphere … I called and complained the next day I was told by the older manger Lynn to come back and they would give us 10lbs on the house . Also said the GM ROB would call me he never did….Me and my husband went back mind you I’m 7 months pregnant. They acted ignorant when I got there mind you I called before I went and spoke to ROB and he said to come and and what time should we expect you…. When I got there everyone very young and problematic acted unknowledgable and made nasty comments about us saying “ the customers always think they are right” they aren’t! After eating, When leaving they tried to charge my card 2x for the butter we ordered appetizers and drinks. When I told them I would pay the difference but not the whole thing over again.. some the heavy set Hispanic girl at the front said what do u not Understand when trying to explain. Why I was being charged 2x then a manager came up and that’s when things got NASTY She yelled “_ get the ____ out of there all u do is complain” she picked up 2 signs throwing them at me and my husband stopping them from hitting me… she then came from around the counter saying “ I’m going to ____you up” (vulgar language) trying to fight me… again 8 months pregnant I backed up and called the police! At this point the MANAGER is being held back by bus boys and cooks looking as if on drugs. I met police outside aNd after them reviewing the cameras because she didn’t hit me they were unable to arrest her! I’ve had to seek legal advice regarding being attacked while pregnant at this establishment.. Long story short management is insane! If your have small children beware of being ATTACKED by crazy staff and overcharging on your debit card! It used to be a fun family atmosphere and always packed, not anymore! It’s a dump! won’t be back! So sad to see a childhood establishment I grew up going to and bringing my own family too, run down by the staff and elements. Sad to say I...
