Went in at 830pm last night as the other restaurant in Elbe says its open until 9pm (Mt. Rainer Railroad Dining Co.) and at 815pm their doors were locked, lights off, and all the open signs facing out like they would be if open....but not open at all.
So Elbe Tavern it is...which is actually Elbe Bar & Grill per the sign. Also, per Google, they are open until 2AM and there is a 21 and under section. My 2 girls and I hiked 9hrs and drove 2.5hrs that day...we were exhausted and starving. We were so happy there was one last place that could serve us and we made it back to town by our target time of 8-8:15pm, which was based on postings of hours by restaurants.
We were turned away at 8:34pm. They advised it was now only 21 and over, so I asked if I could maybe just order some food to go while my girls waited in the car. I was told "no, well, only got fried, closing up soon" We just left - was clear they didn't want us there to eat.
Luckily we had some taco leftovers at our cabin, but we were VERY disappointed in all of Elbe. Everything either closed way before the listed time or were planning on doing same and wouldn't help to feed some super hungry gals who'd clearly worked themselves hard that...
Read moreThis is one of those places where you should be able to give minus stars! I ordered a Patty Melt and got two pieces of seriously burnt toast with half a slice of cheese on a hamburger that was much smaller than the burnt toast it was served on. The toast was so burned that when I took a bite it crumbled and fell on the floor. The fries were obviously half cooked and than allowed to sit a while before half cooking them again and than one more time letting them sit a while before cooking a third time and dumping them on my plate. Truly the sorriest looking fries I have ever seen. The pickles slices were good and the beer was nice and cold. The person serving me did her job very well. I should have sent them back and refused to pay. I never would ask for them to be redone because your likely to get something extra from the cook on the food you do not want. This had to be the worst Patty Melt and fries I have ever been served, seriously that bad! So much for trying to spend my money on small business. $26 for a burger, fries and a beer! They even added a .98 Service Fee to the bill?!? So many positive reviews is seriously...
Read moreGreat food, good atmosphere, terrible service. The bar itself is nicely decorated and inviting with music playing, but not at a level too loud to have a conversation. The food was quite good. I had the philly and my wife, who doesn’t really like phillys, said she could’ve eaten it! As for the service, we walked in and grabbed a seat at the bar. We were greeted, given menus, and drinks timely, but that’s where the good service ended. We waited 15-20 minutes for our orders to be taken. I could understand if the place was busy, but counting my wife and I there were less than 10 people in the place. The bartender/waitress seemed more focused on chatting with the locals and getting them pull tabs than checking in with us. When she finally did come for our orders she openly admitted that she spaced us off. This must be a theme because we had to request ketchup twice and we only had our drinks filled once, which we had to request as well. The drinks were empty again before the end of the meal, but by that point we had given up. Clearly the locals are the main focus and anyone...
