Georgians believe this is the best barbecue place in town. It's quaint. It's affordable. I rated it a three because I don't think it's the best after having Texan barbecue. Now, to compare apples with apples, I can only fairly compare the pulled pork. They don't sell brisket only pork. This pork was not comparable to Texas pulled pork that has a smoky delicious taste. It was not tasty at all, almost like if it was boiled in water which is unlikely. It didn't have enough seasoning for my taste, but my plate had a sandwixh, a tiny cup of coleslaw, and a tiny cup of Brunswick Stew. They don't have chopped onions or jalapeños, so that's a no no for a barbecue place in my state. They only have one barbecue sauce, and it doesn't have a spicy kick. It's just sweet. It's not bad. The cole slaw was interesting. It was good, but the texture is not my cup of tea. I don't prefer the blended slaw and would rather have a nice chunk of cabbage, but that's just me. I've also had the very best cole slaws in many barbecue restaurants I accustom to visit, and this isn't a 5 star cole slaw for certain but edible and okay good. The texture dropped any potential it had which wasn't too much of a potential. The Brunswick Stew was very good. Tney use ground beef instead of shredded steak, and I was surprised, but the taste isn't too bad at all. It's good! And it would be a great comforting soup for cold weather. It has corn only. It didn't even have any carrots. The soup is a 3 as well, but you'll d enjoy that more than the pork shredded sandwich and or the slaw. I also got a banana pudding dessert, and my hopes were high, but again, it disappointed and turned out it was a 2 at most. Having had the tastiest banana puddings in my life, I expected better from this banana pudding cake, but it's just not there. Their sweet tea is amazing! I loved it. Their environment is great, and people love the food and prices, and this location stays pretty busy. I believe, wholeheartedly, you should try this place...
Read moreThis place smelled great from the outside. We saw a lot of good reviews and thought we'd give it a try after a visit to Indian Springs State Park. I'm from South Carolina and I know good barbecue, as I grew up in the Lowcountry. Actually, I've found great barbecue all over Georgia, North Carolina, and Alabama. If you're looking for great barbecue, then definitely steer clear of this place. This was absolutely the worst barbecue place I have ever been to. The pork was very dry, chopped to smithereens, and didn't taste good at all. With the misleading smokey smells coming from outside, I figured it would have a good smoked flavor. But it didn't! The meat was so dry it was more like gnawing on dog food. Really, they should be embarrassed. The Brunswick stew, which was one of the few other items on the menu, had a good consistency, but it was not flavorful at all. I stirred a lot of barbecue sauce into it to try to flavor it up just to be able to get it down. But the barbecue sauce itself was nothing to write home about either. The portions were small, but once I had my first bite I was thankful, because I would not have wanted to eat any more. My friend and I laughed the whole time we were eating because we were so disappointed. We just could not believe that so many locals were going in and out of this place to get carry out as though it was some jewel of a place, but the only thing we could figure is these people don't have any other options without driving a good distance, so they just make do. If you're looking for good barbecue, this is not the spot. If you're looking for something to eat, this is also not to spot. There is a Kroger with a deli down the street, and a Pizza Hut nearby. If you're a barbecue connoisseur like myself, and are just curious and want to see how bad pork barbecue can actually be, then by all means stop here and get a plate....
Read moreLet me start by saying first off my mother and I had planned to visit this restaurant for some time now after hearing so much about it. We decided that we'd check it out on 4th of July which was yesterday, because we were craving some good old BBQ. I drove almost an hour to get to this place only to be HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED, it was the worst BBQ I've ever had in my life. I thought my mother was going to vomit while she was eating she just kept gagging. The sauce on the meat is WAAAAAAY too vinegary, I've never eaten BBQ that had such a strong vinegar taste it just takes away from the sandwich in itself. They offer no veggies at all not even baked beans, the coleslaw was too sweet and looked like guacamole because it was so green. The potato chips they give u are cheap brand no Lays. No ribs, no chicken only chopped pork the bread is cheap and the sauce is just HORRIFIC and that was a first for me going into a BBQ establishment where there were no options of BBQ sauces. Some ppl like sweet sauce some ppl like more of a tangy taste then u have mild, medium, or hot they had none. The Brunswick stew was runny and didn't have very much meat in it I saw no corn. Very big disappointment and for the life of me I don't understand how this place is so highly rated, all I can say about that is there are a lot of ppl who don't know and have not had good BBQ but this place is definitely not it! I lost $10 my mother $8 that's money that could have gone to a better eatery. We still had to end up going to another place because we ditched our food at the nearest gas station and ended up at Smokey Bones. I blame myself I should have done better research and checked out the reviews before hand. Word to the wise stay away from this hole in the wall!!!!! P.S. the reviews have got to be written by owner and his family and...
