Checked out this spot in Falls Church off Leesburg Pike, as it seemed different from the usual Indian restaurant. I called before I drove there to ask what it was about, and I was told that they served Indian, Pakistani, Middle Eastern, and Indo-Chinese. I immediately got excited, as this was something rare, and my stomach was ready to do justice to a buffet. Unfortunately, I was in for a rude awakening, as I set my standards, and expectations too high. Although the place was clean, well organized, the ambiance, and decor inviting, the service great, the food was not upto the mark. I believe in quality over quantity anytime. Just because you have a large buffet area, dosen't mean you need to fill it all up. $12.99 is a lower price range for a buffet, and proteins included shrimp, skimpy slivers of beef in the stir fry, the beef was gone in the beef & potato curry, and goat (feet) soup. Large pans of food sitting for hours on end, to the point where the grease has separated from the dish, the edges crusty, bottom dried up on the rice/noodle dish, and the cream in the butter chicken cracked, all signs of letting me know it's been there on a blasting steam table for a hot minute. Dried out Penne Pasta in cream, Meatballs although made in-house drowned in unseasoned diced tomato chunks, Fries, Vegetable Stew were apparently the Middle Eastern dishes, such a last minute after thought towards the back end of the buffet. Also, part of the Middle Eastern selection, the premade canned Dolmas, and bitter unpalatable Babaghonoush, and Hummus due to the extra Tahini, and the Feta Crumbles with stale tasting tomatoes and parsley. Some Pita would have been nice, and even a Baklava too, but maybe I'm asking for too much. The Pani Puri Station was ever so sad, as there were garbanzo beans, stale onions and tomatoes with parsley? Never heard of that being in pani puri/puchka/gol guppa, it was disappointing, what happend to potatoes? The two different types of water they had were inedible, I had to add more water to it, and flavor it with the sweet chutney on the buffet, which was tasty, as I ate it with my cold samosa. However I do approve the pre-made shells they used, it was the only tasty part. I wonder... do these folks ever taste their food? Salt was an overkill in most dishes, especially the Asian dishes, which told me these folks don't realize that soy sauce has salt, you don't need to add double the salt, talk about high blood pressure! Some things that were labeled were not even correct. There were white beans in gravy called Daal (supposed to be lentils) Stir fry chicken with baby corn, bamboo & veggies called Chili Chicken (so not what it was) Vegetable Pallau (no veggies were in there). The saving grace was the Tandoori Chicken & Naan, they hit the nail on the head with the marinade, it's the flavor I've been in search for, and most restaurants miss. The naan was soft even though it had been on the buffet for a bit. My other favorite dish at this place was the Chicken Corn Soup, it really hit the spot, it was on point. I did have a second cup of that when I tried the desserts, as I was still hungry after trying the food at this buffet as you will see in my video of what I served, and what I actually ate. I chatted with the manager who was super nice, and was getting ready to cook up another batch of Paya (goat feet soup, which was pretty good too, however when I went to serve this, there was only broth left). He said it gets busy on the weekends, so I might go back, but not anytime soon for lunch. I gave this place a 5/10 #dmvfoodie #dmveats #nichasreviews #indianfood #pakistanifood #middleeasternfood #DMVEats #asianfood...
Read moreMe and my friends have been talking about going to this place for a while, and today was when we finally decided to go. Where do I begin? Customer service; not friendly or welcoming whatsoever, place cleanliness; absolutely horrendous, food; majority was iffy, being that it was stale, oily, or just plain suspicious.
Starting off with customer service, there is clearly a lack of communication amongst the front desk. A lady thought two of us didn’t pay, started pointing fingers, and just made a scene of something that was pointless. We did indeed pay, and I understand if you didn’t see or think we paid, ask your coworkers first, make sure your assumption is correct, then approach us, not directly point and yell. As for the waiters that come around and pick up plates and such, there was one waiter by the name of Omair (not sure if I spelled the name correctly) who was very attentive and knew how to converse with customers, making them feel welcome, like any restaurant should. This unfortunately is not the same with one of the other waiters that started waiting for one of my friends to finish drinking their cup of water so that they could take the cup and not come back later, this goes the same for one of my other friends who was also midway of drinking their juice and pointed at his cup even though it was half full. Overall, customer service was terrible.
Next is place cleanliness. The tables were sticky or greasy, and the majority of the chairs had leftover residue on them from spills and such. Some “cleaned” plates had some left over bits still stuck onto them, clearly showing they were not washed properly, I shouldn’t have to look through numerous plates just to find the “clean” one, absolutely unbelievable. Unrelated to cleanliness, but whoever chose the furniture clearly did not know what they were doing. The chairs are so big that you have to walk farther around the restaurant to get back to your seat because you can’t walk through the tables sitting back to back like you could in most other places with a similar seating arrangement. It honestly felt more of a hassle to get up and get seconds just because of the seating situation. I may sound nit picky here, but I’m just being as honest as possible.
The finally takes me to the food. I think the food is mediocre, and honestly this review would be much longer than it already is if I were to talk about each thing I tried. SOME emphasis on some food was decent at most for what it was, however, if you were to put the price they were charging, it would flat out be unappealing. The horrendous price I paid for this experience was $37. I don’t know what it is that they are using the profit for with this fee, but I know for a fact it’s not to better the food quality. This buffet regularly charges $20-25 for the food from what i’ve seen in the past, but upping it to $37 because of Ramadan just makes absolutely no sense to me since the menu is practically the exact same.
Safe to say I am never coming back to this place ever again. Lots of work needs to be done here,...
Read moreAlright Halal Hunan Village is a unique buffet place that claims to have over 70+ options from a variety of cultures and places ranging from Indian to Chinese to Pakistani, you name it, they claim to have it.... issue is they don't. They don't have even half of the options that the buffet claims to have.
But let's backtrack a second. Upon our reception into the buffet, we had to pay and that's where the first red flag was identified. They had a scummy surcharge of 2 dollars 50 cents per person. So original price was supposed to be round 14.50 per person but with the surcharge it is now like 17 dollars. So having misleading advertising should have been the first sign to not come here however we braved forwards and didn't heed this warning. Now back to the buffet, the options are nonexistent compared to other reviews and like I said before they have barely any options. See attached pictures below.
Now let's go onto the next negative aspect of this buffet, the drinks. The drinks are quite frankly really bad and if you want to drink something better and not originally associated with your meal you gotta pay an exorbitant ammount more. But let's go back to the free buffet drinks. The rose tea is alright however it's like they took a bucket of red 40 chemical dye and dumped it into the drink giving it a really red look. Next up the other drinks aka the warm drinks. Ranged from a variety of milk teas and hot drinks. Issue is, it is near impossible to drink any of these due to their absolutely insane temperature setting. The milk tea which I attempted to drink was set at a whooping 212 degrees and after waiting 5 minutes for it to cool down I attempted to touch my tounge and feel for how hot it was, and immediately burned my tounge. It was quiet frankly undrinkable in any time frame at all.
Now let's move onto the next worst thing about this place. The hygiene. The hygiene and cleanliness standards for this place where abhorrent. From the cups to the utensils and even some of the tables they were filthy and dirty. I question if anyone actually ran the utensils and cups though a dishwasher. There are left over food particles and crusty food bits left in drinks and Pepsi cups and etc.
What I learned is that this buffet is a ghost town. There are hundreds of seats but our small group of 5 was the only ones sitting down. It is a ghost town, seems we were the only ones that were dumb enough to decide to risk eating here. Even the water didn't taste much like water.
TLDR: Cost to quality of food is bad, hygiene is bad, food is frozen tasting, it's a scam for its price,...
