This place could be five stars with a few changes... I have been to Hog Heaven a total of about 8-10 times over the last 8-10 years. It's okay but could be so much better. I do like the BBQ and sauce, it's my kinda sauce, has a bite and not too sweet! However I do not care for the buffet, the main reason is no homemade salad dressing. Most not all local BBQ buffets offer at least home made buttermilk ranch but at Hog Heaven you get packs of Ken's steak house ranch... Total turnoff for me. I would like to see more items on the buffet, especially a larger salad offering with more fresh veggies and perhaps home made croutons? You won't find that at Hog Heaven. This buffet is smaller in general than the other BBQ places a few miles north. The last time I was in for a late lunch I had NO salad as a man was working on the salad bar so the salad bar was out of order and I had nothing but BBQ and a pice fried chicken. As I was watching the salad bar being fixed I had the thought perhaps its time for a new larger unit that would be large enough to offer fresh homemade salad dressings and just more toppings? It looks like this place does a huge to-go business and I would have no problem grabbing a pound or FIVE and a gallon of sauce to go but much better buffet offering with real salad dressings and more choices a few miles north in Murrells Inlet. I think and I do hope with just a bit more home made effort, Hog Heaven could be the #1 spot for BBQ on the Grand Strand as the BBQ and sauce is good but just not enough items, effort, or "love" given to the buffet...

I had been seeing the ads on FB for this place so we took the hour drive to try it out. There was a very friendly lady at the entrance, it was seat yourself so I went and found a table while my husband went to the restroom. The server wasn't very friendly and offered no information. She saw me and said "What are you drinking?" The ads mentioned all you can eat shrimp and oysters. I assumed they were on the buffet. I went to make my plate and noticed no seafood on the bar. The food was excellent! Everything was fresh and tasted good. When I saw the server again I asked about shrimp and oysters, she said it's on the menu. So I asked for a menu. There is a higher price for the seafood (makes sense) but also includes the buffet. By this time I've already had a big plate of food and am almost full. I'm surprised she didn't ask if we wanted seafood when she took the drink order. Maybe she assumed we'd been there before but she couldve asked that too. Another server came by and filled our drinks and she was really sweet. The original server was the nicest when we were leaving, guess she was happy to see us go. The buffet was very good but we really were going for the shrimp and oysters so it was a little disappointing. The price for the buffet was very reasonable and even the prices on the menu for seafood were reasonable. Everyone seemed really nice except our server. She wasn't rude, just not friendly or...

Middle of the road but everybody has different taste opinions and this is mine....

The restaurant has a Mom & Pop feel to it which is nice. The staff were all great and seemed genuinely happy which is rare.

The pulled pork was good but in the middle between the best & worse I'd ever had. However, I am in no means a BBQ aficionado. I tried all the sauces and my preference was mixing the mild with the mustard based.

The smoked chicken taste on the other hand was amazingly smokey. You could definitely know it was smoked. Just wish it wasn't quite so dry. The fried chicken was also dry and tasteless to me.

Most of the sides were not my cup of tea as they were very bland or watery BUT there were some exceptional ones that I could eat everyday! Highly recommend the Mac & Cheese, Stewed Tomatoes & Green Beans. They were all very full of flavor.

On the deserts my preference was the Oreos in Cream Fluff.

I would eat here again if the things I liked were on the buffet because they alone were worth the price despite it being $14 instead of the $11.99 stated on...

In the salt-shadow of the marsh grass, Where the air is thick with the perfume of slow smoke And a wind from the tide moves like the memory of summers gone— Here we sit, in the low light of evening, Among tables and a bar worn smooth by the palms of strangers. The pulled pork arrives on the buffet, glistening as though in repentance, Tender shreds collapsing into themselves, Cradled in the company of stewed vegetables — Little warm planets adrift in their own gravity of grease. We speak little; The hush is not from hunger, But from the long draw of the smoker’s breath— A patience of hickory and oak that outlasts The impatience of modern men. The fried chicken — golden crisped both juicy and sepulchral— Cling to the bone like an old truth, And the Oreo dirt pudding, dark as an August dusk, Whisper of fields where no one hurries. Outside, the tide turns. Somewhere, laughter falls like shells against a dock. Here, in the slow-moving hour, We taste the South— And find it lingers. (Hog Heaven by TS Eliot)

We were really excited to try this place after reading the reviews and seeing the amount of traffic in the parking lot... Sadly, we ended up disappointed... It was busy when we walked in so we sat at the edge of a dirty table and gave the server our drink order thinking surely it would be tidy when we returned from the buffet, to our amazement no one bothered to take care of it (including the tip that was left) during our entire visit... Gloves are required at the buffet however wearing them the entire time is recommended as everything in the table caddy is pretty dirty... Food was OK but not good enough to make up for the general layer of ewe throughout the building (including the vent system outside)... Sorry, but just can't see us recommending this place to others...

This is a MUST place to dine if you’re anywhere near Pawleys Island!! For $8.15 per person, you get all you can eat BBQ and Southern side dishes! The side dishes are amongst the BEST we’ve had on this trip. The fried chicken is THE BEST. It is perfectly crisp and melts in your mouth. The pulled pork is tender and full of flavor! Each side dish tastes as if it was made with lots of Southern love. There also a salad bar if you’re trying to be healthy. I’m not a huge dessert fan but I made a concerted effort to sample both puddings (chocolate and banana). I had another piece of fried chicken for my actual dessert!!
