Cute 50's style diner playing 50's music. Menu is mostly seafood. And mostly fried. They do serve burgers, subs, and salads, but those are clearly not the focus here, haha.
We had the fish tacos lunch special ($7), the lobster roll with onion rings ($18) and the All you can eat shrimp (2nd plate and after, you can substitute clams or fish) with onion rings and coleslaw ($17). All our food was good, and the onion rings were excellent, if a little sweet with the batter reminiscent of funnel cakes. The coleslaw was served in a condiment cup, and, I think it would be wise to increase the size or eliminate it entirely-- it is a ridiculous size and feels really stingy. The fish tacos had generous pieces of fried pollack with lettuce, tomato, and shredded cheddar. The lobster roll was authentic New England style. The fried shrimp and clams were small but plentiful and very hot as they should be. These are not the best fried shrimp as that honor belongs to Osteens in St. Augustine, but the variety and authenticity of Lena's menu is 5* .
All were accompanied by bottles of Ketchup, tartar (oddly sweet), cocktail sauce, and a housemade horseradish sauce that was the best one.
For drinks, we had the iced tea which is brewed, not instant. Free refills which is good because the Styrofoam cups are on the small side, however our waitress was very attentive and kept them full.
The fried items were hot and the lettuce and tomatoes were cold. Everything was fresh and came out really quickly.
This visit was on a Thursday at about 2pm, but they had about 6 other tables occupied while we were there, of course this was about half full... it is a small place. Service was friendly and efficient.
Men's and ladies' room consisted of a single toilet and sink in each but they were generously sized and clean.
They do close for a while in the summer. I think right after July 4 (2022).
It isn't hard to see why Lena's has been in business for so long, especially in such an out of the way location. I just wish it was closer. Hope to make it back in the fall or winter for some chowdah (not sure whether it will be...
Read morePrompt, friendly service. Clean, tasteful, typical New England-style decor. We ordered takeout and waited less than 15 minutes. Got an ice cream next door at Crazy K's Ice Cream while we waited and then the sweet gal who helped us brought the food out to our car!
I ordered the lobster roll and my husband ordered the bacon cheeseburger, onion rings, and a bowl of clam chowder.
The lobster roll was smaller than expected on a regular hot dog bun. I ordered it hot instead of cold which was $1 more. The bun was lightly toasted by soggy. The only savings grace was that the lobster was good, otherwise, I would have been upset paying $18 for it.
My husband's burger was okay for a frozen burger.
The onion rings were good but a little greasy. The sauce was good, not a lot of flavor though.
The clam chowder was very disappointing. No flavor, watered down, definitely not homemade.
All in all, we support small businesses and it food was better than you'd get in any fast food place. Growing up in New England, I have high standards for a seafood joint from that area and overall the food fell flat. They nailed it everywhere else so I will go back because of the service and the fact that I'd rather my money go to them than any fast food place. Times are hard for small businesses so if we stand by them now, I believe the quality will...
Read moreI'm from Massachusetts and am very familiar with Lena's. The seafood restaurants in Mass are always very generous in portion sizes but Lena's has never been known for great seafood, usually just subs and pizza. I was shocked to see Lena's in Florida and thought we'd try it. This location wasn't anything grand, although the prices reflected a top notch seafood restaurant. The prices were through the roof. The food was served in a small plastic basket, which to me can be taming with bacteria. We had to ask for a plate, paper plates were given. The portion sizes were very small and definitely Not worth the money. I got a haddock fish sandwich which was really good however the french fries that were served with it were awful, they had to be the cheapest restaurant frozen fries ever made. My husband ordered a seafood plate, which also came in a basket. The amount of seafood in this basket was extremely small for almost 30 dollars. It was served with those disgusting fries, a few onion rings with thick batter and a roll with no butter. We were both disappointed and left feeling robbed, 50 dollars for nothing, never again! This is why Lena's is out of business in the Northeast, they should stick with...
