We visited the Mason Jar in January, 2025. It was fairly crowded when we arrived, but we were seated fairly quickly. The building and decor goes for the feel of being at or on a ranch. No, we didnāt think that we were on a ranch, but they did a good job with the theme to give you the feeling. The tables have old carvings or writings from past visitors, that they varnished over to preserve the carvings. I found that to be a very nice touch. The tables seem a little crowded, but seemed to have just enough room to be functional. I was amazed how well the ladies serving folks, were able to get around. The servers seemed to work well together. When one of them went around to refill coffee, she went to all the tables and not just her own. Everyone seemed pleasant. Our server was excellent and very nice. I feel bad that I cannot recall her name. I cannot truly comment on the food as a whole since we both only had a special that was only small bowl or large cup of soup and a grilled cheese sandwich. The soup was good, but unfortunately, barely warm enough to eat. So we had the soup first, then ate the grilled cheese. The soup was not to the point that I would bother our server in anyway. But it by no means what we would consider hot. But it can happen and it was very good, abet cooler than I would prefer. The grilled cheese was hot and quite good. I know, itās hard to screw up a grilled cheese, but you may be amazed. And we have had it happed. I want to point out that we still enjoyed our meal and will probably be back. The prices arguably, were somewhat reasonable on most items. Like most things, peoples opinions will vary. I did find some items a little expensive compared to others. We found the beverages to be on the high side for fountain soda or coffee. Not to an extreme, but higher than most places for what it is. Of course that may be just my opinion. But a small cup of coffee and one fountain soda without any refills, probably should not be the over $7 price that we were charged. Our bill was close $40 for two soup and grilled cheese, one coffee and one fountain soda. With the tip included, our lunch was basically almost a $50 soup and sandwich lunch. All in all, the Mason Jar was a nice place for a meal. Maybe a little chaotic and kind of loud because of the crowd. But it was a nice meal. The crowd itself normally will give you an idea of how it may be. Although not perfect by any means. The Mason Jar is worth a visit. As I already said, Iām pretty sure that weāll visit again...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWould give the service a minus score if available. We were seated in a reasonable time and waited patiently for a waitress. About 5-6 minutes after we were seated a large group came in. Someone finally came over to ask what we wanted to drink after approx. 10minutes. In the meantime the large group began receiving their drinks and the waitress took their food orders. After waiting 15-18 minutes we asked when someone would take our order. In a few minutes the waitress came (same on that waited on large group) and she took our order apologizing that no one indicated we were there. All 3 of us ordered the all you can eat chicken dinners. Someone brought our dinners and my friend asked for a refill on her coffee. 10 minutes later she had to ask someone else for a coffee refill as noone had refilled it yet. A few minutes later we flagged down another waitress to ask for more chicken. A while later our waitress finally came over again bringing 3 pieces of chicken and the check. By that time we had been in the restaurant over an hour and had to leave for an appointment. While my guest was eating a piece of chicken I paid the check and asked for a box as we had to leave and he would be unable to finish eating there. We were told we couldnt have a box be cause he had reordered. We tried to explain it was only because it took so long to get our food and was told they were short staff - No apology. We saw the waitress twice during the entire service and it was busy when we first arrived, but there were 5 empty tables by us when we asked for a reorder of chicken and we still had to eat. My guest was upset about wasting food but we had no choice but to leave it uneaten. We have eaten here many other times and never had such horrible service. The service was so bad it was the first time in my 73 years that I did not leave a tip. Unsure if myself or my two guests will give this restaurant...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis place used to be pretty good, I tried them again after years about 4 different times. 3 for lunch and 1 once for breakfast, and my God has it changed. The prices are ridiculous for the food served, my first two lunches I tried I got the cheeseburger, for the price I was worried about the portion size so I asked and they said it was huge. Unfortunately, I don't have pictures, but 13.99 for a burger and fries where the patty is smaller than the bun and toppings is disappointing, although it was decent. The 3rd lunch I honestly don't even remember what I got so I guess that says something. More recently I took breakfast to go, (Corned beef and hash with eggs) and Jesus is it some of the most bland food for 12 bucks I've ever paid for. I should've gone anywhere else for the price and portion size of the food. No salt or pepper on the eggs, biscuits and side of gravy seemed uninspired or from a can. Eggs were cooked perfectly other than being bland so I give them that but you can't mess up an egg. I'm skinny guy and the portion here still left me hungry.
Also not a fan of asking if I want to leave a tip on a TAKE OUT order. I get someone in the back cooked my food and all but that's still outrageous, no one should ever be asked to leave a tip on takeout/Carry out meals. I'm not being serviced, im not being taking care of. If the food was being delivered or if I had been dining in then sure. But not when I spent my own personal time/fuel to pick up my food on top of already paying the high prices here.
Will probably be back eventually if things changed but I don't think they will. This place reminds me of Bob Evans food, it's...
