One of those places that you WANT to love, but ultimately find frustrating and slightly a farce, causing you to realize you’d never return. It starts with a great story, great concept, great theme. A perfect platform for a potential great experience and some great food… but womp, an awful execution.
The customer experience for me was “meh”. The staff refused to allow swapping a readily available ingredient in, even when I offered to pay more. They also have this menu feature where you can upgrade from your chips to a different side or a salad for a $4 up-charge, but they battled with me to honor it. It’s in large/bold print in the middle of the menu - so this was wild to me. They wanted to charge me as a separate item. Two different staff members argued me on it. In fairness to the lady at the window, she was new, so she was just doing whatever someone behind her said to do on both those issues. The lady in the kitchen seemed like she really didn’t want to be there.
The food was also mixed results. The grilled cheese sandwiches were actually the worst items. The grilled cheeses were small, lacked sufficient quantity of ingredients, really pricey, no depth of flavor, and failed in honesty.
For a $14 grilled cheese, you got what seemed like 1 or 2 pieces of cheese, 2 pieces of bacon, and 2 paper-thin apple slices, stacked in unremarkable bread. Wild pricing. There was supposed to be maple syrup in my sandwich, but there wasn’t. The bacon was claimed to be crispy, but was actually undercooked and never had been crispy at any time.
Also, the maple lemonade definitely did not have maple in it. It was a plain lemonade.
This side salad that I swapped for my chips and up-charged (and they gave me such a hard time for), was amazing. Well built, good ingredients, tasty, good size, good dressing, etc. it was the star of the meal.
My wife had her side upgraded to a soup, which was tomato. I typically am not a tomato soup fan, but I thought it was really good.
So I guess I’d recommend going for the sides, but skipping the grilled cheeses. But doesn’t that defeat the entire point?? I just can’t imagine ever wanting to return to this place.
I didn’t get the vibe that they were trying to be a “fly by night” tourist trap, but that’s what I experienced.
P.S. are all your cheeses pasteurized? Some pregnant people would...
Read moreJuly 1, 2022 We had Cheese Louise Food Truck, catering our Welcome Dinner for our son's wedding weekend, July 1, 2022. We had the pleasure of working with Sullivan Gaudreault, Food Truck Manager for Cheese Louise, he was very helpful and thorough. There are several choices of Artisan grilled cheese, my favorite, The Baconator. The grilled cheese comes with a side of chips. We added two other sides; garden salad and/or mango salsa. Their lemonade is delicious. The Price is very fair and portions are generous. Cheese Louise supplies the plates, napkins and utensils. The truck is very clean and shiny black with outside stringed lights, a nice wooden menu on the side that is easy to read. The staff is very efficient and very personable. They arrived on time and left without a trace. All 68 guests loved Cheese Louise and Artisan Grilled Cheese. I would highly recommend Cheese Louise, you won't be disappointed. Terri and Nathan...
Read moreThis review is a shout-out to Morgan at this location. My wife has Celiacs, and Morgan walked through the entire process of making things 'gluten free' here, and thanks to that, my wife was able to avoid a very uncomfortable night. Basically here the sandwiches ingredients are assembled pre-made and they transfer them off of wheat-based bread to the GF bread. Even for someone with only mild cross contamination issues, this is a big issue. So props to Morgan for helping her avoid that by her clear explanation.
So I can't comment on the food (it seemed cruel for me to eat one in front of her), but she did let us know that the North Conway location can make things more properly gluten-free (tho I believe it's still made int the same kitchen), so next time we are up that way we will stop in.
Thanks again Morgan,...
