I have a couple of friends and we like to go out to dinner to try new places and new things or old places that might still be good. So with an eye for nostalgia and hope for a new place to go, we decided to try the newly renovated , newly named, old Buck Tavern, now Flanagans, in Corbin City, New Jersey. Two out of the three of us are big guys so we look for comfort when we go out. We entered the bar the old-fashioned way on the corner. There were only a few people sitting and they were at the bar. There are several high tops along the wall. We are looking to eat in the dining room instead of high top table. Entering the dining room the temperature went up a good 20°. The bartender/waitress/perhaps manager? Informed us that we were welcome to sit in there. They would have to turn the air conditioning on. We opted not to, chose a high top with four hard wooden chairs until we found another one that had rather pleasant upholstered chairs by the door. The fun begins. The menus are clean, tall and clearly printed. The items are described in an easy to read, the font is not one I am able to discern. The young woman, working completely by herself, was attentive and pleasant, yet not quite knowledgeable about the food. Drink order taken, returned quickly and served in clean pint glasses. The iced tea was delicious. We chose an appetizer of stuffed meatballs. They arrived quickly, hot and awesome to the taste. My one buddy received the clam chowder and enjoyed it! For dinner, my mate ordered the smothered pork chop with potatoes and broccolini? My other friend had a chicken sandwich with melted cheese and I went with the Reuben. The pork chop was not to my friends liking, my Reuben was excellent. The chicken sandwich and my Reuben were served with crispy fries, however, the sizing was haphazard. Two or three inches long down some at half an inch. We had to search other tables for a full battle of ketchup and nothing is worse than bottles of married ketchup. Every bottle was slimy having been wiped down often and refilled. At the end of the meal, the young lady who served us had a brief conversation with my friend and the pork chop, but she did not offer to remove it from the bill, even though it was not eaten and her response to it not being very good was less than adequate. In the end, we cannot decipher what is happening here. Some food is delicious, some food is off the mark. To have one server doing everything, bartending, taking orders, serving orders, and also clean up afterwards is absurd. Certainly, the place wasnāt busy but at no time did we see another soul that actually worked there. Lastly, the continuous country music was on full volume⦠itās an empty room, turn it down. I will go back for the meatballs, definitely at a different time and I will ask...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWhat a great addition to the area! There isn't much to choose from around here, and what there is, isn't impressive. From the moment I walked into Flanagan's I was greeted by the owner Evie and immediately felt welcomed. She has a great personality and will have you cracking up for hours. Her husband, Tom, is also hilarious and her children are both very kind and respectful. I don't even know where to begin with the food. I've tried several things now and it's always consistently delicious. The Bangers and Mash are ridiculous, as is the Irish Breakfast. I love their Rueben and the Turkey Club. Delicious French Onion and wings with Thai Chili. Even the fries are scrumptious! The building itself has such a homey feel. I love the dining room with the cozy fireplace, but typically spend my time at the bar. The atmosphere is inviting and it's one of my favorite places to relax and shoot the sh*t. It's also one of the cleanest establishments I've seen. You can tell Evie is a pro and takes pride in what she does, paying special attention to every detail. She truly cares that her customers are comfortable and happy and she treats everyone like family. She even double checks to make sure my takeout orders look exactly as they should. If you haven't been yet, you're really...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThought we would give it a try since we heard so much about it! Well we tried it and that was enough! The food was awful! We ordered mild wings that were nothing to brag about. Your typical frozen wings! They came with three very small pieces of celery. We added a order of fried shrimp that didnāt even taste like shrimp! I had to push that away. Not sure what frozen brand that was. But it tasted like the fryer oil had not been changed for a while. The onion rings along with our two Beers were the best. Now add that up for a whopping 54.32 plus tip and that was our date night! Didnāt even want to stay for a second round! I would say they need to improve on the menu in some ways! Bartender was ok, didnāt really go out of her way to make us want to stay. So with that we probably...
