Are you looking for a BETTER steak house to visit, with better cuts of meat? Are you looking for a quiet, date-friendly establishment to have a fantastic meal? Look NO further than RIGHT HERE! Date night turned into finding this gem, and making it our go-to place for meat and ambiance, but make a reservation as it fills up rather quickly. We started off with 2 appetizers (fried pickles and mozzarella sticks) both fried to perfection. About 5 minutes after that, our salads arrived (spring mix, onions, cucumbers, croutons, cheese, and dressing). No more than 10 minutes after that....the main course. 2 24oz Ribeyes (both rare), asparagus spears, and baked potatoes (fully loaded, no extra charge). To say the cuts were generous would be an understatement, as they were HUGE, and cooked perfectly. The asparagus was seasoned and served like it should be...crisp and buttery. The baked potato came large, and included butter, sour cream, cheese, bacon, and green onion...flawless!! The complimentary rolls were an added bonus, and although enjoyable, were a deterrent from the dinner...which was difficult to finish. We did order dessert though, the Tiramasu and the Cheesecake. Again...both were extremely well prepared and served in appropriate sizes. The wife and I walked out stuffed yet happy, the service is outstanding, the waitstaff is attentive and well-trained, and the ENTIRE establishment is well worth a repeat visit. Better than anyplace that serves meat in Chico so far. Try it once, you'll be a repeat customer as well. Simple!! ***Update***7-15-2023***Anniversary night for us, so a 2nd trip back, and it's not what we expected... it's BETTER!! The place was crowded, better appetizers, and the food was outstanding!! The clam chowder was spot-on with a little kick, the mozzarella sticks were perfectly cooked and oozing with plenty of cheese, the Burnt Ends were chewy and chock full of flavor with 3 dipping sauces, and the Prime Rib, with shrimp toppers, was better cooked than before. The service was phenomenal, with the owner coming to our table to wish us a Happy Anniversary. No room for dessert however, but it'll be sooner than later before we go yet again. "6 STARS"

First visit to Lassen Steakhouse. To the quick. We ordered the deep fried pickles appitizer. Nicely done, crispy but solid pickle inside. The starter sweet rolls were good, soft and nice flavor. We ordered the Filet Mignon and Fetuccini Alftedo w/shrimp. Enhanced the filet by adding grilled shrimp, mashed red potatoes and waiter was nice enough to add both choices of veggies: roasted carrots and asparagus w/parmesan cheese. Both came with a mixed-green side salad. The filet was prepared medium which I highly recommend. Pink inside but not rare and it's better at medium as the flavor really comes out. The filet was tender and outstanding. The filet remained warm through the entire eaying. The veggies were perfect in texture and flavor. and the mashed red potatoes simple and not over done. The Fetuccini Alfredo was excellent, sauce was smooth, nice consistency, good flavor. Service was good and attentive. My two dings are 1) the clanking of plates and loud staff conversation by the kitchen. I would avoid sitting at tables near the service station/kitchen entry as the smacking of plates is ear piercing and 2) the payment folder containing our bill was coveted in oil and food from server hands. Looks like it hadn't been cleaned in days.

The food was just bad. Like 'the kitchen staff gave up' bad. As much as I wanted to like this place, the food killed it for me. I was in a party of 8, who made a reservation for 8, because that's what they had available. We showed up early and a few of us got drinks while we waited, although we couldn't sit in the bar area, because it was full (good sign, right?). We walked around outside for a while and finally settled in the entry area as our reserved time came and went. We were seated around 8:30. At this point we were fine, although one of our party commented that she looked and they were supposed to close at 9. I figured if they took reservations at 8, knowing how busy they would be, they were prepared to still serve us. Our server was very sweet and apologized for the wait, and gave us two complementary appetizers. We ordered an additional one, because we were a larger party and we were hungry by now. We were told they were out of prime rib and mashed potatoes. We were dissapointed, but everyone ordered accordingly. My husband and I each ordered the new York strip with mushrooms and onions as toppings. We each got a vegetable as well. He ordered medium rare and I did medium (I normally order more rare, but was told by the server it would be cool inside). At this point the whole party is fine. We have apps to ease our hunger, drinks are coming quickly and we're a fun group. Then the food comes. I was in shock. I would have taken a picture, but it would not have been identifiable as food. My plate was piled high...I've seen the raves about generous portions....but it was just a brown mass on my plate. My steak was somewhere under a very brown rice "pilaf" which tasted suspiciosly like rice-a-roni. My brussel sprouts mush was somewhere in the mix. It truly looked like a tray from a mess hall where some disgruntled employee threw slop at it as it went by. I still tried to eat what I was presented. It was late, and I highly doubted that anything coming out of the kitchen at that hour would be any improvement if I sent my "meal" back. The steak was completely sub-par for ANY place, much less a Steak House. The only flavor in the steak was the char (that part was good) and the saltiness from the "pilaf". It was very chewy and full of gristle. I took a few bites and gave up. I went to search for the brussel sprouts. They were slightly less brown than the rest of the slop, but had the consistency of something that had lived on a warming plate for most of the night or had been microwaved. The mushrooms that were part of my steak topper (wasn't it all just a topper, really?) Were big chunks, and very rubbery. I really wish that this had been only my experience, but it was pretty universal at our table. The best thing aside from the appetizers was the salad. Of the 8 people at our table, all 8 barely touched their food and ended up taking their food to go. (Probably to do what I did...attempt to eat the leftovers later and end up throwing the food away). I don't usually leave reviews, but I honestly do want this place to do better. I did leave a nice tip for the wait staff and at the bar, because I think they were great. I did tell our server that she was really very good, but the food was NOT. She offered to bring someone named Robby or Bob out so I could tell him, but if he was the cook it was obvious his give-a-damn was busted. This was a massive dissapointment to a group of friends and family who drove over an hour to have a good (really, just good would have been good) meal together. Please, do better with your food, or just run with the rustic bar with appetizers thing. Your servers and bar tenders deserve better than to have to apologize...

*Update, Jennifer was kind enough to invite us back to give the steakhouse another shot. Big improvement. The staff was great and were all working hard. Meals were enjoyable and the atmosphere is still great!

Underwhelmed. Ordered the cod, yes I should’ve ordered steak at a steakhouse. It came out rubbery, I was unable to cut through it with a steak knife. (We were with another couple, my friend had identical experience). Was afraid to even try it. Pointed it out to waitress. She asked us to put it onto my bread plate and took it to the kitchen. Apologized. Didn’t offer anything at this point except to have it replaced. Returned with another piece of cod on a bread plate. Nothing but the slab of fish. Same.exact.thing. It was even worse. When I was able to saw through to the center, it appeared either frozen or raw. My husband and other friend were finished with their meals by this time. We pointed it out to the waitress again who apologized but didn’t offer to bring anything else and made reference to taking it off bill. I was left hungry. This was a rare date night. We were with another couple and wanted to enjoy our time. So we didn’t leave right away. We were never offered any more drinks (had each had a cocktail at the beginning of the evening) or water refills. Then we were brought the bill and both cod dishes were still included. We were eventually able to wave her down and ask for it to be corrected. She did correct it. I felt that there were many missed opportunities to fix this situation from the very beginning. And although the effort was sort of made, it certainly wasn’t the genuine service or care I would hope for. No visit from the manager, no other dinner option offered, no sincere reaction to an obvious problem. This is more than a bad service issue, there’s some kind kitchen issue here, too. Unfortunately we won’t be back and can’t say we would recommend Lassen Steakhouse. I love the atmosphere. It was raining very hard when we visited. A staff member came by and asked that we take our purses off the ground due to water coming in. When I left I noticed the sides of my leather boots were even wet. Hope they can...
