Decided to celebrate my birthday at Tony's Mining Company. How disappointing! Walked into utter chaos at the hostess station. My husband and I weren't even welcomed. Tried to explain to the two hostesses that a member of our party couldn't attend and that it would just be the two of us. The hostesses were more focused on a family of 3 and kept getting our names confused. We were left standing there like unwelcome guests. No explanations, no invite to enjoy a drink at the bar, no "just a moment we will be right with you." Our table was in the back corner of a dark and dingy room. Lightning was poor and the room lacked character. We were brought a plate of butter and then ignored until our waitress arrived and took our drink order. Drinks were fine, not very strong. Ordered apps, which were delicious and our main courses. Asked about why we had butter and the runner said it was for the bread. He finally brought us some bread. Ordered glasses of wine to enjoy with our dinner, those arrived half-way through our main course. I would give this place 2 stars if it wasn't for the food. For the price of the meal, you would expect better service and a more welcoming environment. Maybe it was because we took the time to put on nice clothes, not just jeans and hoodies. Maybe it was because this restaurant is geared for those over 70, who are repeat customers and new people are ignored. In hindsight, this Lancaster County couple should have stayed in Lancaster County. Side note-received a call from Steve, Manager at Tony's Mining Company, that I needed to call him back on his personal cell phone and give him my credit card number so that he could run the tip for our waitress. ...
Read moreI only want to leave positive reviews but I didn't enjoy my experience. Some very specific observations:
I don't understand the Japanese hand cleansing before eating. It's not a Japanese restaurant and they don't offer a towel to dry your hands afterward. Our waitress couldn't explain the point and it felt tacked on for no reason. The waitress also dropped boiling water all over the table. Figure out a better method of delivery for this or axe it before someone gets hurt.
Meat and cheese board was overpriced. Mostly pepperoni, salami, and some hard Italian cheese. Mustard was good but the jam was medicinal.
Caesar salad presentation was bizarre. It was romaine leaves individually dressed. Inconvenient to eat. House salad was bland, they said it had a maple dressing but it didn't taste like anything, even with the vegetables, just a weak dressing taste. These are also not included in an entree which was deliberately deceptive, an extra $24 for salads I would not have ordered otherwise.
I got the ribeye special with Mac and cheese. The Mac and cheese was so smoky I couldn't eat it. It also looked like it sat under a lamp or microwave. Certainly not fresh.
Service was ok, not sure if our waitress was new or what. The bussers were very attentive.
It wasn't all bad. My wife had the Ahi special and it was good. It's a neat environment but the men's room was dirty, urine on the walls that clearly haven't been cleaned in some time.
It was my wife's birthday and I love celebrating birthdays with a great meal and a great experience. I was really let down by...
Read moreWe had a party for our 90 yr old father at Tony’s Mining last night. We cannot say enough good things about our experience! Jean and her staff, Brooke and Kelsey (I’m not sure these names are correct) bent over backwards for us, both in the planning and execution. The chef did an excellent job of doing every steak (all 33 of them!!) to perfection. Many of us agreed we’d never had a better steak. The children (11 kids under 9!) had homemade chicken fingers which also got rave reviews. Two of our party have Celiac disease and were able to easily eat by only holding the croutons from the Caesar salad. They were gracious about helping us set up our own decorations and serving our birthday cake. We never felt rushed or a bother despite us changing numbers and set ups a couple times. The decor, including copper tables, is authentic and well preserved. My 89 yr. old mother had been here some 35-40 yrs ago and had wanted to return for a special occasion, and I was hesitant since she had not been back since, but we were all thrilled with her choice! It was every bit as good as she remembered. Don’t be fooled by the “shack-like” building; it’s a “mine shaft entrance”!!😉 Yes, it might be just a little rough around some edges, but the food, tables, setup and staff...
