I have never written a review like this before, but my recent experience at Rancho Alegre was so horrendous that I feel compelled to warn others. We had heard good things about this place, so we decided to try it out for my husbandâs birthday dinner. Big mistake.
To start with, the best thing we had was the queso, and if we were smart, we would have paid for just that and left. I ordered the Burrito Loco, and it was cold. After sending it back, the replacement was not only cold again, but it also tasted terrible. Honestly, Taco Bell does a better job. My husband ordered the ACA with added shrimp, and it arrived so cold that it had to be sent back, too. Did I mention it was his birthday? Great way to celebrate, right?
It didn't get any better. My father-in-law ordered chicken enchiladas but received beef, which he canât eat. And yes, it was cold and looked like it had been sitting out for ages. My mother-in-lawâs chimichanga was supposed to be topped with queso, but there wasnât a drop of it. The chimichanga itself was so hard you could break your teeth on it. After this disaster, we thought maybe they were just having a bad night, so we had everything remade. While waiting, we saw the table next to us sending their food back, too. When our second round of food arrived, it was still badâcold and inedible.
We were done. We got up to leave and couldnât believe they refused to discount the food we had to send back twice! This was hands down the worst dining experience weâve ever had. Horrible dinner, horrible service, and not even an apology. I canât understand how they have an A rating; frankly, the health department should shut this place down. We will never go back, and I strongly advise others to avoid this place at all costs.

From the moment you walk in, you're greeted with a warm, inviting atmosphere that makes you feel right at home. The food is clearly made with loveâhome-cooked flavors, fresh ingredients, and recipes that taste like they've been passed down through generations.
Every dish we tried had that comforting, made-from-scratch quality that's hard to find these days. You can tell this family takes pride in what they serve, and it shows in both the presentation and the taste. Whether you're craving a hearty plate of enchiladas, flavorful tamales, or fresh guacamole, you won't be disappointed.
The service was just as genuineâfriendly, attentive, and happy to share the story behind the dishes if you ask. Itâs the kind of place you want to keep coming back to, not just for the food, but for the feeling of being welcomed like family.
Highly recommend supporting this...
Read moreThis is where it is at if you are in the area and looking for authentic Mexican food. None of the chain restaurants around can match the intimate quality of this quaint little hideaway grocer/restaurant. You can grab some of the hard to find dry ingredients for your own Latin meal or you could (should) fill up on their fixings. The best tacos and burritos around. Authentic delicious tamales and sopas. It is just downright good eating in a non-ostentatious humble spot. Don't be afraid to go find this treasure if you are near Corydon. It reminds me of some of the old country stores that we use to have around Southern Indiana only this one is great authentic Mexican food instead of biscuits and gravy...
