Stopped here in a road trip with my family, very cute little drive in, due to covid their tables were tapped off but it would a cute little area if they were open. There was quite a few people so ordered took a bit, not big deal. Our food came out piping hot nice and fresh. I ordered the chicken strips, they were okay. Nothing special. A little disappointed that they didn't come with frys. My husband got the fish and chips, he said they were pretty good. My mother in law got a burger and said she LOVED it. After we finished with out food we went back for dessert. I got a waffle cone which was great and hit the spot. My husband got a milkshake and said it was good and my mother in law got the supreme sundae. It came in a little paper dish and was a big mess. She said it was good as well and the brownie was nice a hot. I would come back again if I was passing through. Nothing to special though, the atmosphere is what gives this place a 4th star

It’s hard to see this place coming from southbound on I-5. Just be ready to turn around after that loop. Can be a little confusing, but other than that, once you here, it’s a nostalgic, cool little place with plenty of outdoor seating. The parking is a little rough if there are a lot of people. Super friendly staff, We stopped here on our way to Rogue and got some shakes and ice cream. The burgers were just okay, nothing special. It is a little silly to be charged for ketchup and ranch. The shakes are thick and really good and most important fresh!, so this place is good for ice cream and an okay burgers. I almost forgot we ordered the jalapeño poppers. They were terrible and soggy, but due to the uniqueness and customer service, I won’t let that affect the review. I will say it is super weird and upsetting that there are no restrooms available to customers. Good this there’s a rest stop going down south about 7-8 min down the road.

I've come here since I can remember, my family would always stop here on the way to Medford or California, usually a couple times a year. I always loved getting ice cream here, it's been an ongoing tradition that I have since continued with my own family. Sometimes I get regular food, their food is overall good, I've had their fries, burgers, and BLT they were all well-made. It is old school drive-in fair, iff you like that. The ice cream usually has generous portions(more so in the cone than a dish, I recommend getting a cone!), and is what I usually stop for. The staff is generally nice, I've never had Abby issues throughout the last 30yrs. While it won't blow your mind, it's a bit of a throwback in a good way, and I am always in favor of supporting traditional businesses like this one that have been around for 50 or so years, and have a very very consistent quality overall. God Bless ~Amy

K&R Drive-In is a classic and beloved dining establishment located in Oakland, Oregon. Here's a description of this nostalgic eatery:

Retro Charm: K&R Drive-In embodies the charm of a retro-style drive-in restaurant. It takes diners back in time with its vintage signage, carhop service, and a nostalgic atmosphere that harks back to the golden era of American diners.

Carhop Service: One of the defining features of K&R Drive-In is its carhop service, where friendly servers come to your car to take your order. It's a throwback to the 1950s and provides a unique and nostalgic dining experience.

Classic American Fare: The menu at K&R Drive-In features classic American fast-food fare. You can expect mouthwatering burgers, crispy fries, hot dogs, sandwiches, and a variety of ice cream treats, including milkshakes and sundaes.

Outdoor Seating: While carhop service is a big part of the experience, the drive-in also has outdoor picnic tables and seating areas for those who prefer to dine al fresco.

Community Hub: K&R Drive-In often serves as a community hub where locals gather to enjoy good food and socialize. It's a place where friends and families can come together and create lasting memories.

Seasonal Specials: Depending on the season, K&R Drive-In may offer special menu items or promotions. For example, they might have seasonal milkshake flavors or holiday-themed treats.

Nostalgic Decor: Inside the drive-in, you'll find a decor that pays homage to its nostalgic theme, with vintage memorabilia and decorations that transport you to a bygone era.

K&R Drive-In in Oakland, Oregon, is more than just a place to grab a quick meal; it's a nostalgic journey into the past, offering a taste of classic American fast food in a charming and retro setting. Every state has its treasured diner tucked away in some Podunk off the beaten path rural town where, before the internet, only the locals knew about it.

Oregon has many such gems but, surprisingly, most are along the I-5 corridor.

This is one of my favorites, not because the food served there is so terrific, good but not terrific, but because of the lessons in business success it teaches.

You see, this business started decades ago and hasn't changed since. It doesn't advertise, all word if mouth. It sits beside the freeway at the bottom of Rice Hill outside Yoncalla where dozens of motels and gas stations and relics of businesses attest to the futility of opening anything there.

And yet, tour busses pull in and people queue up to order the take out fare - there are no indoor seats or tables at this diner.

What's the secret?

Simple. Serve up good food and give your customers more than they expected. If they ordered a small ice cream cone heap on three scoops of delicious local Umpqua Ice Cream.

After all, the actual cost of the food is miniscule compared to your other expenses.

Don't skimp...

Ordered the hamburger, which was nice with the red onion and fresh tomato. Nice quality bun, but the hamburger patty seemed small so I'll get the double next time. Got the small fries, which were steak fries, and are my favorite kind. They got a little steamy in their packaging as I didn't eat them immediately, I'm sure they would have been crunchier if I had eaten them on site. I also got a chocolate milkshake. Real ice cream makes a difference, but it was just chocolate syrup mixed with milk and vanilla ice cream. So quality wise it was very high, but flavor wise was about the same as McDonald's, I had been hoping for a shake made with chocolate ice cream, or a more intense chocolate flavor. My fries got a little soft because I couldn't stay to eat. The traffic noise of interstate highway 5 was much too loud to sit and enjoy my food there. That also meant the my shake was gone by the time I drove somewhere quieter. Next time I'll try the pulled pork. TLDR : food good, get double if getting burger, eat fries before they...
