Most of the time as Country Buffets go I would rank Savannah's a for although today's visit was sadly a 3.
On on Friday night they have a seafood buffet were you can get all you can eat snow crab legs brought to your table at a reasonable price. Now I'm it that you want to get there around 4:30 or 5 as it fills up fast on Friday nights and from my experience you don't want to go too late as they close early and the food typically gets a little colder as the evening goes on.
My personal favorite is the all-you-can-eat fried pork chops on Tuesdays at lunch. I have left work at Tallahassee and gone all the way to Wakulla station just north of Saint Mark's to get fried pork chops then gone back through Tallahassee to South Georgia to work just because they're usually so good.
Normally I would rate this place at a 4 but my experience today was barely at 3. It probably had something to do with the fact that we arrived just after 11 a.m. before the real lunch rush. They start putting watch food out around 10 or 10:30 a.m. because there are guys in the area that go to lunch as early as 10 a.m..
When we arrive at the Fried Chicken on the bar was cold and when they got us hot Fried Chicken it after we complained about it that Fried Chicken seem to just be microwaved.
As for my beloved fried pork chops the first ones were cold. When I said something about it they brought me a couple more that were so greasy after 25 years in the restaurant business I would have bet that they dropped them back down in the fryer for short time? That may not be what happened but my visit today was sadly a miss.
Nothing's perfect all the time and they do try. My wife ended up not wanting to eat so they took her off the check and only charged me for myself and my grandson has they had met me for lunch. They did end up getting some Potter pork chops out but I did have to wait longer than I had planned to stay there just to get some.
Overall I'd still really recommend Savannah's and know firsthand that it's difficult to always be spot-on in the restaurant business. I just recommend not showing up too early for lunch or too...
Read moreI have multiple food & seasoning allergies, and so eating out is very rare for our family. Most times when we do eat out, I can only eat plain lettuce with my own homemade dressing. Occasionally a cook or owner will offer to clean the grill and cook a plain piece of meat & an unseasoned veggie for me, and that is awesome!
But our server and cook at Savannah's literally had me in tears.
We went for the seafood buffet (which we all love), and I asked the server if she could tell me what seasonings were used. She promptly brought out the cook - who reminded me of a kind grandmother- and she calmly went through and explained what I needed to know. She then added that she would be happy to grill anything on the buffet separately if I needed her to.
It turned out all I could eat off the buffet was lettuce, olives, and sunflower seeds. The server asked me what I could eat grilled, and I told her any fish or shrimp would be fine, whatever was easy for the cook. She asked if I could have scallops, and I said I could, and then the cook returned to make sure salt and pepper were okay.
She returned with a plate of all 3 proteins, and it was one of the most delicious plates of food I ever had.
I was able to enjoy eating a full (where I didn't go home and eat more to feel full), real, scrumptious meal out with my family for the first time in over a year. It was amazing, and I am so grateful and thankful for the kindness, empathy, and just plain wonderful that was served up in this little restaurant.
As for my 2 teenagers & husband, they were all stuffed and happy! They raved over every item on the buffet and said there was nothing that wasn't amazing. They enjoyed so much food that no one even attempted dessert!
Our server didn't stop from the time we arrived until we left. She was pragmatic, aware, organized, and exceptionally hard working. We were very impressed!
We would highly, highly recommend Savannah's to anyone who enjoys down home southern cooking and being blessed by a heapin' helpin'...
Read moreI'm sorry to write this review but I feel people should know this information. This past week we placed a to-go order and waited inside by the front door. As we waited we saw a waitress play with her long, unkempt hair then immediately afterwards, with her bare hands, grab a couple slices of lemon and attach them to the rim of a cup that was soon taken to a seated customer. The waitress returned to the drink station, reached into the ice bin, and grabbed a piece of ice to chew on. She did this a couple times. She then went into the back/kitchen (which was very visible from the front door), pulled her hair up and fastened it somehow. She returned to the drink station, reached into the ice bin and grabbed another piece of ice to chew on. She then looked down at her shirt and appeared to remove a few strands of hair from her shirt.... immediately before picking up several slices of lemon again and attaching them to the rims of a couple more drinks that were placed on a tray then taken to customers. Meanwhile, back in the kitchen, a woman with bare hands appeared to have 4 frozen "somethings" that she placed back into what appeared to be a freezer. The establishment was friendly and appeared to be very popular among local residents, but we were shocked at the unsanitary practices. This might not at all bother some people, but it sure resulted in us not wanting to ever eat there or recommend...
