Trident — Restaurant in Crawfordville

I am never going back Trident Restaurant in Panacea. My family and I enjoy dining at the Trident especially on Whiskey and Wine Wednesday. We went on Wednesday the 9th of July and were seated. Our waiter came by and my brother ordered his whiskey (Maker's Mark) and I ordered my whiskey which is Johnnie Walker Black. Scotch. The waiter returned and said Scotch is not included because it is not whiskey. I asked when that became policy as I had done this a number of times with no problem. He went and talked to someone and came back handed me the drinks menu and said I should pick Rye or Bourbon neither of which I drink. I told him I would stick with water. A manger type came up and asked what was the problem. I explained the I asked for Scotch and was told that is not whiskey. He said that was correct and I suggested that he look it up somewhere. The waiter came back shortly with my brother's bourbon and a Johnnie Walker for me. Interestingly my pour was easily 1/3 of my brothers. As he put the drink on the table he told me that while Scotch is not whiskey they were going to accommodate me this one time. So I got one third of a drink and serious attitude for the third time. We had refills and again I received a small portion. For those who care Scotch is a whiskey according to every source I can find. Bourbon is a whiskey. Rye is a whiskey. Jameson is Irish whiskey. Look it up. Anywhere. I will no longer patronize Trident Restaurant because of this experience. Not only were the staff and management simply wrong on the facts the attitude...

We will not be going back. Went to have dinner here while on vacation with family. The waitress came to get our order and we asked for just a moment to look over the menu since we had never been here before. We waited for just over 45 minutes for her to come and she didn’t so we got up and started to walk out. When she saw us getting up she ran over to take our orders. We went ahead and ordered because we had kids who were hunger and wanting to eat. She took our orders and refilled our drinks that had been empty for 15+ minutes( but did not refill the kids drinks). We got our food about 30 minutes later (at dinner we expected about 30 minutes to get food after ordering). The waitress never came to check on us or offered anything else to drink after the one refill when she took our order. We sat there after eating waiting for the check and finally had to ask the bus boy who kept walking back to see if we was still there so he could clean our table to tell the waitress we need our check. It was a little busy but not busy enough to justify the service we had considering that every table around us was constantly being checking on and getting refills by their waitresses. I was really excited to see what the Backwoods folks were gonna do with the old harbor house location and finally made a trip down to see my parents and take them out. Overall is was okay and I will probably try it again later down the road when they are more established.

The service was great and the dining room was neat and interesting but very loud/echoey. It is pretty pricey but it’s a great location and seafood so that was expected. I tried a couple appetizers and my parents got the Buffalo chicken sandwich and the mahi mahi salad. Kids got the chicken sandwich (plain) and chicken tenders.

The mahi mahi was under seasoned so it was bland and the breading on the chicken fell off of both sandwiches and the tenders. The crab bisque was good but not as good as at backwoods crossing. The mozz drops were good but I prefer the bigger ones at backwoods and the amount that came on the plate was small for the price, only 6 drops/bites. I tried the lobster cakes (decent and actually too salty) and the scallops (scallops were good but I didn’t like the potato purée pairing but they were good separately). Presentation was beautiful!

Again, maybe it just needs to work out some kinks and I’ll probably try again, maybe I expected more since I like the crossings location and loved the old backwoods location in Tallahassee. Overall it...
