Northern Trails Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Croton Township

Arrived around dinner time. We placed our order. Other tables were feelin̈g up and placing ordees 6 exact. As we waited for our food we notice the other tables were receiving theres and finshing and leaving. Along new tables were placing orders. 1 hour 18 mins nothing. My son called for the waitresse to cone over. We asked about the food. Her explanation was they had gotten a table of 30. She then brought my son a beer. And went to tge computer and i watched her type our order into it. Then she proceeded to go to other customers. 10 mins goes bye still waiting. So my son called over a different waitresse over to the table and told what was going on. She checked in and said it be 10 more mins. Finally foid arrived. We were missing food item and thet gave me the wrong salad dressing. Again had to get the waitresse. Again had to wait. Finally comes back with tge new dressung and told her still missing sone itens. A taco sour creame and salsa. Appx 2 hours latter. She brought the items to us. We ate and got done. Now time for the bill waiting again. Finally he calls her for tge bill. Told her we wanted seperate bills. She went and got them prinited and came back to us. Then she said she could collect the money. I was up set a d told her i would take mine to cashier. I go to the cashier she sees me and walks away from her area. So i waited and waited . Thinking shed be back shortly. While waiting our waitresse sees me and says i can take that now. She proceeds 2 check me out and gave me my change. Know deuction no comments nothing....

We've been to Trails several times; the service and food are usually adequate - nothing more. We visited last night and, again, same adequate service. This time, however, the food was more than bad. I ordered the beef kabobs, rice, and asparagus - which is a normal menu item - and the beef had turned bad. I noticed it as soon as they brought it to the table; it was discolored, and smelled rotten. When I mentioned it to the waitress, she asked to smell it. She then took it away and came back after a while and told us they would take the kabobs off the bill, but not the rice and asparagus - because there was nothing wrong with those. They were having steak burritos on special, so I assume they had some beef that was going bad and had to use it. It was not about the money - if I could not pay for it, I would not have ordered it. But anyone in the food industry knows you do not serve a guest rotten meat, then charge them for everything else that was on the same plate. We were more than a little disappointed. We will not go back.

UPDATE: After not visiting for more than two years, we decided to give them another try (there are not a lot of options up here). The new staff they have are wonderful. The food, while not the best, is usually pretty decent. We've been coming in every other week or so, and it is consistent; as long as they keep up the good work, we'll keep...

One of the worst dining experiences of my life. Went there with son for 1st time and was moderately busy. I knew I was in for trouble when it took nearly 15 minutes just for my 1st drink to arrive. After ordering could not get waitresses attention multiple times unless I followed her at full speed shouting at her down hallway. Onion rings for appetizer were overdone and nearly burnt and sent back. From then on I could tell they had a “tude”. Ordered ribeye steak rare which was supposed to be their best and it arrived well over an hour later and was tough & grissly, which was no surprise being only 1/4 inch thick. To order rare, the fat doesn’t even get a chance to emulsify at that thickness and is like an uncooked steak. I’ve had some bad steaks before, but this wasn’t even edible. I sent back & waitress never even asked me if I wanted something else. She just disappeared. Finally went to manager and complained about not being asked and her reply was “Well we didn’t, because it appears nothing will satisfy.you”. I was absolutely livid. Then to add insult to injury they overcharged me for 2 drinks and the asparagus which was only thing edible they couldn’t screw up. Left hungry, and a bad headache from not eating after having drinks and mad as hell. Avoid this place...
